Ivy
My heart constricted and my vision tunneled as the words left his mouth. I had long feared that it would come to this and knew what would have to happen, but I couldn't bear the thought of it. It was all too much. It wasn't supposed to end like this, but I'd always known that love and war didn't mix well. I wanted to have this one last happy memory with him before it would all be ripped away. And so, as I looked into his deep emerald eyes, that I had fallen so deeply in love with, I gave him the only truth I could offer him.
"It doesn't matter. Just let me have this final night together, before we part ways, and it will all have been worth it".
And that's exactly what we did. We spent the remainder of the night cuddled up by the fire, reminiscing about our life before all this death and tragedy. Of the time when our biggest worry was fitting in, not whether or not we were going to survive the week. But as time went on, my nerves returned, and my courage waived. I wasn't sure what would happen after I left this cave, but I knew there would be no going back.
I rolled over so I could look at Antony and found him sleeping. A sad smile touched my lips at the sight, but I pushed my feelings aside and as I pressed a featherlight kiss against the crown of his head a silent tear fell down the side of my face.
I had done the only thing I could think of to give my people a chance at survival. Or at least that was what I told myself as I wrenched the dagger back and watched a dark pool of blood form around him. A violent sob ripped from my throat as I watched the last bit of life drain from his body and I knew the image of him lying on the ground in a pool of his own blood would haunt me forever. And while the rain might wash away the evidence of my sins, my soul would be forever stained with the blood of my enemies and the blood of my loved ones.
Authors note
Thank you for reading my story. This is the end, I hope you loved it. This was not originally inspired by the tale of Romeo and Juliet however as I wrote I realized there were many similarities and that is why I chose to name the love interest Romeo. Was there anything that left you wondering? Something you liked in particular? A theory you'd like to share? Or perhaps a suggestion on improvement? As always comments are encouraged and likes appreciated.Love, a girl who believes in dreams
