After convincing his parents to move to a college, cities away from his hometown, Mingyu feels like he could take on the world. And especially after his mother left with tears in her eyes and snot running down her face he really is glad to be left alone for once. And after a week full of moving all of his belongings to his dorm, he really would appreciate another week of resting before his courses start, but the universe has other plans because right now he is on his way to his first class.
When Mingyu's brother died, his entire world came crashing down. It's weird to think that twins really can feel each other's presences, and just as heavy his presence showed itself, so did his absence. As if a crane swept up half of Mingyu's identity and just disappeared.
What he absolutely didn't expect for his college life though, is to be paired up with a roommate that feels like a ghost. It's been a week and he has not seen more than his roommate's blanket-covered back while he slept. Mingyu even went out of his way to leave little notes around the tiny two bed room, to let his roommate know he's going grocery shopping or that he changed the air-con filters, yet absolutely nothing came back in return.
He knew when he read the e-mail about the mix-up that happened, that he got paired up with someone two years older, that there would be some problems.
But to be honest he thought those problems would be the opposite of his current ones. He thought he would have to deal with people coming over all the time or being teased by his roommate's friends or something, but no and it made Mingyu feel like a complete idiot.
He would just have to make his own friends, Mingyu thought while entering the first class of this year's semester. He's studying primary education, just like everyone in his family was a teacher, Mingyu wanted to become one as well.
When he entered the classroom, he immediately notices all the small groups that have already been formed and kicks himself for not making friend sooner, because sitting alone at the back of the classroom does not sound appealing to him right now. He sits down next to one of the few people that sit pretty secluded from the rest and goes to ask if the seat is empty. After no reply he just sets his bag down and sits down.
Glancing to the wordless stranger he sees a face he kind of remembers from info week but doesn't seem to remember his name. He goes to ask the stranger about his name but notices that he has got earbuds in so just stares at his hands instead.
„Did you say something? Sorry I couldn't hear anything, but you've been staring for a while so" he says as he takes his headphones out and packs them in his bag.
Perplexed, Mingyu looks at him and stutters „No, no I just thought you looked familiar so I was gonna ask what your name is"
„We're neighbors, our dorms are right in front of each other," After Mingyu's confused look he adds „you helped me move my dehumidifier in?" Oh.
„Yes oh my god I remember, I have been wondering who the hell needs one that big-„ stopping abruptly when he sees the guy's serious face he reminds himself to maybe not insult the first person he has an interaction with if he wants to make friends. Nervously he looks down on his lap when he suddenly hears his neighbors loud laugh echoing around the class.
„The look on your face was hilarious bro", sighing in relief Mingyu relaxes his shoulders again and prays to the gods he didn't fuck up his first chance of making a friend.
„I'm Seokmin by the way" he stretches out his hand for Mingyu to take „I'm Mingyu"
„So you're the one who ended up with Wonwoo hyung in a dorm" he nods his head as a look of understanding came across his face.
