You didn't know what time it was.
But if you had to guess,
you would say that it was really late judging
by how dark it was outside in the city,
the streets empty but lined with parked cars,
The autumn breeze blowing back and forth
with a bitter chill in the air.Sitting there on the fancy ottoman
in the corner of the room,
the shutters down to the store front
as he tried on various luxury suits
that had been handmaid and with
only the finest detail,
it wasn't a rare occurrence for businesses
he was paid to protect from gothams crime rate
to supply him with anything
he needed.
Be it suits, cars, watches or arms.
To be entirely honest with you,
being Jack Napier probably meant
that it was impossible for them
to turn him down anyway."Doll"
He eyed you in the reflection
of the mirror as he played with the cuff links to the shirt he was trying on for size,
noticing you sprawled out on the floor with
your disney princess kids magazine,
reading through the pages and looking
at the photos.
"Get up from the floor,
little girl.
Don't you fucking embarrass me""It's fine,
Sir"
The tailor assured him,
going out of his way to be too obliging,
the only staff member allowed to
be on the premises whenever Jack Napier
was to be around,
the owners shutting down shop specifically
for his custom.
"Really"Taking his eyes away from you
but not without giving you a warning look first,
you furrowed your little eyebrows,
not understanding what the big deal was
about you lying on the floor
with your magazines when you did it all the time
at home and he never scolded
you for it there. His men standing by the entrance
like security guards,
you looked at them curiously.
Wondering why they were always
around even when it seemed unlikely
that anything would happen
but you had never questioned your dada
before on what he did for a living or why
he was away from home so often.
All he told you was that he owned a night club,
that he was a businessman
and not to pry where your little nose
wasn't wanted.
But you never saw him carrying a briefcase
like all those fancy wall street type men
did on the way to work in the morning
when you were taking the train
to go to the mall with your little backpack
placed on the other seat so that nobody
would sit next to you like
he told you to.
