Uma's POV
My grandpa had his fingers laced together and elbows on the table and his gaze peered at Ricardo fiercely awaiting his answer. Lucky for him, the waitress was right on time to take our drink orders and gave us more time to look over the menus.
Ricardo was right back in the hot seat when the waitress walked away with our drink orders scribbled on her notepad. When I glanced over at my grandma, she was focused on Ricardo too. This time, Daisha was shifting uncomfortably in her chair.
What did she expect? She knows exactly how our grandparents gets down.
He cleared his throat. "Eh-hem. Sir, we will be moving into the home that Daisha's mother left for her."
"Excuse me? She is pregnant and that house is all the way out in the country and needs more work done to it! That house won't be livable any time soon!" My grandpa boomed.
My grandma scoffed under her breath and shook her head in disbelief.
That house needs a full on gut, reno, and like he said, it wouldn't be ready any time soon or safe for them to live in right now.
"Grandpa! My mama left me that house to me and it's just sitting there! We're going to figure it out, okay?" Daisha tried to reason.
Chile.
"So in other words, you two don't have a roof to put over y'alls heads and New York was too much right?" My grandpa assessed.
"Look, grandpa. This is just-- Anyways, Uma what are you doing? I know you don't work anymore, the company you've been working out shut down and everything!" Daisha tried to throw me under the bus, and redirect the attention to me. Typical.
"Don't you start Daisha. The focus is on you two right now," grandma said. The tone in her voice was even, but her nostrils were flared because she was beyond pissed.
Pissed at Daisha for sleeping with my ex, being pregnant, and clearly the only one making real money in their relationship. Let's see how long this 'union' lasts. I'm not the one for praying on anyone's downfall, but these two are are already halfway there. I'll drop a lil floss string they way to help pull them up though.
"Y'all can have my old apartment until the house is ready or whatever," I offered and shrugged nonchalantly. My new apartment is going to be furnished and paid for next year so this is nothing.
"There's seven months left on the lease and the rent is $1500," I finished, sitting back in the seat to cross my arms under my breasts.
The flicker of relief that flashed across Ricardo's eyes was proof they really brought their asses back down here broke and helpless.
"Where are you going?" My grandparents asked in unison.
"Oh! That's right. Before I knew that they were coming, I was going to tell you guys about my new job offer in Lebeau. I spoke with Ace Lebeau earlier to go over my contract and I'm set to move in a week."
"Really!? That's Fantastic Uma!" Grandma beamed.
I nodded contently. "Yeup," I said and the frown on Daisha's face was priceless.
"So Uma, how did that conversation go with the owner?" grandpa asked, giving me his full undivided attention.
"Well for starters, I'm getting on a first class seat on the plane to get there. A moving bonus, a furnished apartment, and a furnished office of my own. I'll be doing what I was doing for my 'old' company. My resume spoke for itself and Ace hired me on the spot."
