Rengoku arrived at the destination where your battle was taken place. You were slumped by a tree, veins popping out of your forehead as you felt the sharp teeth in your poke poking your lip. You had been turned into a demon. "Master Rengoku? You came." Rengoku knelt beside you, his eyes filled with pity, though his sword stayed firmly in his grasp. "Of course I came. I could never leave you behind." You lay helpless against the tree, blood dripping from your mouth. You had fled the village where you were stationed as soon as you could. "You didn't have to." You frowned and lowered your head, too afraid to meet Rengoku's eyes, but deep down, you were relieved he was there. "And I wasn't going to," Rengoku replied, placing a gentle hand on your shoulder. "I know this isn't your fault."
Tears welled up in your eyes as you buried your face in your hands. "I almost ate a human being. I'm terrible." Rengoku's expression softened as he sat beside you, wrapping a comforting arm around your shoulders. "Hey, it's okay. You're still the person you've always been. You're not horrible." You stared at your hands, noticing how your nails had sharpened into claws. "But I look so different..." Rengoku let out a soft sigh and gently took your hands in his, turning them palm-up as he examined the claws. "Appearances can be deceiving,"he said softly. "Looking different doesn't change who you truly are inside."
"It's hard to control it." Rengoku nodded, his grip on your hands tightening slightly as he noticed the conflict in your eyes. "I know it's tough, but you have to fight it. You're stronger than these urges—I believe in you." You shook your head, despair evident in your voice. "I can't. Please, just kill me." Rengoku's eyes widened, a mix of shock and determination crossing his face. He shook his head firmly, his grip on your hands tightening, unwavering. "No. I won't do that. You have to fight this, and I'll be here to help you every step of the way." You whimpered softly, fear tightening in your chest. "But what else can I do? There's no cure for this."
Rengoku's expression remained resolute as he spoke gently yet firmly, determined not to let you give up. "There may not be a cure, but that doesn't mean there's no hope. You can still live and make a difference despite your new condition. I promise I'll find a way to help you, but first, you need to fight for yourself." "I don't think I can." Rengoku took a deep, steadying breath, releasing your hands to cup your face gently, urging you to meet his gaze. "You can. You've faced so much and endured more than most people could ever imagine. Yet here you are, still fighting. I won't give up on you, so please, don't give up on yourself."
"But I'll be killed if I go back to headquarters." Rengoku's gaze hardened for a moment, and he nodded, loosening his grip on your face slightly. "That's true. But I won't let them do that. I won't let them kill you. I'll find a way to keep you safe." "But you'll just be seen as someone with a demon. I don't want to get you in trouble." Rengoku let out a small chuckle, his expression softening as he gently brushed his thumbs over your cheeks, wiping away your tears. "I don't care about that. You're more important than what others think of me. If I have to go against the Demon Slayer Corps to keep you safe, then so be it."
"Master Rengoku..." You cried as you clung to him. Rengoku wrapped his arms around you protectively, drawing you closer as you grasped him tightly. His touch was firm yet gentle, a steady anchor amid the turmoil of your emotions. "It's okay," he murmured softly, rubbing a soothing hand up and down your back. "I've got you. You're not alone. I'm here for you."
