You panted heavily as you stood in front of the pile of logs. You had done this countless times before, likely more than anyone else in the Demon Slayer Corps. You knew you looked ridiculous, sweat streaming down your face, hair clinging to the back of your neck.
You were dressed in just your uniform pants and a tank top, with your jacket tied around your waist. You felt even more ridiculous knowing you were the only woman participating in Hashira training. First, because in this era, it was common for only men to become swordsmen.

Second, most of the men had laughed in your face. On top of that, you'd already been chewed out by Shinazugawa and Iguro for being "weak." You were picked on the most, likely because you'd been training with the Stone Hashira for months—probably longer than anyone else.
Of course, you had talked to Kocho and Kanroji about your struggles, and both supported you, assuring you that you had potential. But deep down, you knew you couldn't be as strong as them. After all, they were both Hashira—respected and admired by everyone.

You sighed and knelt on the ground, looking down at your hands, which were covered in dirt and splinters from handling the logs for the past few hours. "Your determination is admirable," a deep, familiar voice said. You quickly stood and turned to face the Stone Hashira.
Despite knowing his kind heart, his towering figure still intimidated you. His immense height blocked the sun, leaving you standing in his shadow, feeling small in comparison.but even the strongest pillar must rest to stand tall.

"Overworking yourself will only dull your abilities. Take a moment to breathe and recover—only then can you face the challenges ahead with the strength they demand," he said, gazing down at you with his hands clasped together, the beads around them gently clinking.
You looked up at him and nodded firmly, a smile spreading across your face. "Thank you, Master," you said softly. You felt like you were about to cry. A man had just told you something inspirational... or at least you thought so. Gyomei often spoke in Buddha-like phrases that sometimes didn't quite make sense to you.

Still, you appreciated his words. They gave you the encouragement you needed to keep pushing yourself harder. Gyomei reached into his large pocket and pulled out a wrapped bento. "It's important to eat," he said, offering it to you with a gentle nod.
"Thank you," you said with a smile, accepting the bento. Both of you sat down together and unwrapped it, revealing a pile of rice balls inside. You smiled and began eating, savoring the simple yet comforting meal.

"You're reminding me of her," Gyomei said softly. You paused your eating and looked at him with curiosity. "Remind you of who, sir?" You asked, blinking as you tilted your head. "I used to care for a little girl, a child with a big appetite like yours," he said. You smiled and giggled. "She sounds wonderful."
Gyomei smiled at you. "She was an incredible child, full of life and innocence. She had a remarkable way of lifting my spirits, no matter what. Caring for her was one of the most fulfilling experiences I've ever had."

"She was?" you blinked in surprise. Gyomei's expression grew somber as he nodded, his smile fading slightly. "Yes... I'm afraid she's no longer with us. Life can be cruel sometimes." You gasped, covering your mouth with your hand. "I'm so sorry for asking. Please forgive me!"
Gyomei shook his head gently. "Please, don't apologize. You didn't know, and you have nothing to apologize for. It's a memory I cherish, even though it brings me some sadness."

He looked at you with a soft expression, a faint smile on his lips. "You remind me of her... your spirit, your presence. A strong soul with a pure heart." You smiled at him. "Thank you, Master. You're too kind." Gyomei chuckled softly, a warm sound that reflected his kind and gentle demeanor. "The honor is mine, dear student."
He gazed at you kindly. "You know, it's quite comforting to be reminded of those days. I must admit, you've brought a smile to my face and a sense of nostalgia." Your smile widened, glowing even more brightly.
