As we journey through life, the inevitable truth of death awaits us all, leading our bodies to the stark, sterile confines of the morgue. While most envision this place as merely a workplace for morticians-skilled professionals who painstakingly prepare the deceased for their final farewell with care, makeup, and well-fitted attire, there exists a shadowy side to these establishments that is often overlooked.
In some corners of the U.S., the morgue transforms into a scene far removed from the serenity of a dignified passing. It becomes a haunting ground for sinister plots, where even the departed seem to carry the weight of untold stories and unresolved mysteries. This unsettling reality stemmed from a surge of tragic incidents-accidents, homicides, and unspeakable acts of violence that have filled morgues to capacity with bodies, each carrying their own tale of despair. Investigators, faced with an alarming rise in crime rates, often find themselves entangled in a web of secrets that refuse to unravel.
Claudette Davis is a woman of good deeds; she was respected as someone who had a strong personality. Working as a chief despite being a woman is what she's good at. She's been training nonstop to prove to other men that even a woman like her can do things like them. A police officer invites her to every crime and investigates with them; she knows they need her not because of being their guide but because of her brains. Claudette has such good wits that even the most clever person can outsmart her. She works her thinking and applies it to a possible scenario and even takes some evidence to prove her claim. Without any dread, she lives on her own and has been serving her duty well as a chief police officer.
The television opened with the sound of the breaking news of another accident that happened nearby. Claudette is eating a bag of chips while watching the news when she hears the doorbell ringing. Margaret was at the door when she opened it, she's one of her closest friends who came over to see her.
"It's been a while, Claudette," she said with a smile.
"What brings you here, Marga?"
She tells her to come inside and close the door after; she is glad that her friend visits her after all those months of work she was focused on.
"Your place looks nice as always; it has been months since the last time I got here," Marga uttered.
"Yeah, no one visits me aside from my relatives," she replied and offered her friend to sit. "I got a bag of chips there; please help yourself."
"Oh, thank you," she notices the news that Claudette is watching. "So you're busy, huh?"
Claudette shrugs and pours some cold water into the glass.
"I'm always busy; nothing's new."
"You should take it easy into that chief thing," she said.
