Chapter 2
The morning sun streamed through the expansive windows of the Jeon mansion, illuminating the opulent interior with a golden glow. Jungkook, however, was far from feeling golden. He stood in front of the full-length mirror, scrutinizing his reflection with a critical eye. He had spent the night tossing and turning, replaying the events of the previous day in his mind, his heart a tangled mess of conflicting emotions.
He couldn't believe he had actually hired Taehyung as his maid. It was a ridiculous, impulsive decision, born from a desperate need to be near him again. He had been so caught off guard by their unexpected reunion, his heart pounding with a familiar, exhilarating thrill. But then, Taehyung's confusion, his unspoken question, had pierced through his carefully constructed facade. He had seen the disappointment in Taehyung's eyes, and it had shattered his carefully constructed facade.
He had been so focused on hiding his true identity, on keeping his past a secret, that he had failed to see the hurt he was causing Taehyung. He had been so caught up in his own insecurities, his own fears, that he had forgotten the importance of honesty, of vulnerability.
He ran a hand through his hair, his gaze lingering on the dark circles beneath his eyes, a testament to his sleepless night. He knew he looked like a mess, but he couldn't bring himself to care. All that mattered was seeing Taehyung again, seeing that familiar smile, hearing that familiar laugh.
He pulled on a crisp white shirt, the fabric feeling stiff against his skin. He glanced at the time, his heart pounding with a mixture of anticipation and dread. It was time.
He descended the grand staircase, his footsteps echoing through the vast, empty hall. He paused at the foot of the stairs, his gaze drawn to the grand entrance hall. He could almost smell the faint scent of lavender, a scent that always reminded him of Taehyung. He remembered their childhood, the way Taehyung would always wear lavender-scented lotion, the way the scent would linger in his hair, in his clothes. He closed his eyes, inhaling deeply, trying to recapture that familiar scent, that familiar feeling of warmth and comfort.
He opened his eyes, his gaze falling on the figure standing in the hallway. Taehyung. He was dressed in a simple, clean uniform, his hair neatly combed, his face radiating a quiet confidence. He looked different, older, more mature, but the familiar warmth in his eyes, the kindness that shone through his features, remained unchanged.
Jungkook's heart skipped a beat. He had expected to feel awkward, to feel the weight of his past mistakes. But all he felt was a surge of joy, a sense of relief that Taehyung was actually here, in his home, within his reach.
He forced a smile, trying to mask the turmoil within him. “Good morning, Taehyung,” he said, his voice a little shaky. He internally slapped himself, reminding himself that he should act as if he didn't know Taehyung at all, but what he just said right now made it obvious. “You must be Taehyung.” he tried to make it oblivious as if he didn't just utter Taehyung's name.
He saw a flicker of recognition in Taehyung's eyes, a hint of surprise. He knew Taehyung remembered him, knew he was Jungkook, the boy he had known all those years ago. But he couldn't bring himself to admit it, not yet. He needed time, needed to figure out how to navigate this complex, unexpected reunion.
“Yes, Mr. Jeon,” Taehyung replied, his voice polite and respectful. “It's nice to meet you.”
Jungkook nodded, his heart pounding in his chest. The way Taehyung calls him never fails to make him flattered. Even if it's those childish nicknames or formal ones. He always admired the tone of Taehyung's voice no matter what. He wanted to tell Taehyung everything, to confess his true identity, to explain his motives. But he knew he couldn't. Not yet. He needed to play this carefully, to tread lightly, to make sure he didn't scare him away.
“It's nice to meet you too, Taehyung,” he said, his voice a little strained. “I'm sure you'll do a great job. I'd like to see your movements for a while to judge you but I'll save that when I have my free time. Mrs. Singh will show you around.” Jungkook stated, trying to calm the rapid beating of his heart just because of how gorgeous Kim Taehyung is.
“Sure, I'll do my best, Mr. Jeon, have a nice day.” Taehyung smiled so lovingly that Jungkook wished to see them more often; it was enough to lighten his nightmarish day.
He turned to leave, his gaze lingering on Taehyung for a moment longer than necessary. He could feel Taehyung's eyes on him, a silent question hanging in the air. He knew he was playing a dangerous game, a game of deception and denial. But he was determined to win, to win back the trust and affection of the one person who mattered most to him.
He took a deep breath, forcing himself to walk away, to leave Taehyung to his new duties. He needed to figure out how to win back the heart of the boy he had loved for so long, the boy he had lost, the boy he had never truly forgotten. He had to know what changes Taehyung had gone through, he wanted to catch up to Taehyung.
“It seems like Mr. Jeon has taken a liking to you.” Mrs. Signh commented, seeing the odd movements of her boss.
“Did you think so?” Taehyung mumbled. “It would be much better if he remembered me, but it seems it wouldn't happen at all.” he sounded disappointed
“Well, that doesn't matter anyway, for now, you will prove your worth as a staff here. Mr. Jeon has a lot of dislikes for people, so you better learn them. ” Mrs. Singh started to move to teach him chores he needed to do.
Taehyung believed that was unnecessary because he knew Jungkook very well. But who knows if he develops some dislikes for other stuff? He just sighed and followed her instructions.
