BUTTERFLY
Act One: Chapter Nineteen
Consequences of their actions

AMERIE AND HARPER WALKED THROUGH the gates of Hartley High, their hands intertwined, students murmuring at the sight of them together after the year they had. Seeing them together felt almost unreal to Delilah.

They shot a hard glare toward her group—everyone but Delilah, that is. When their eyes met hers, they offered a polite, strained smile. Delilah returned the gesture, though she couldn't help but feel a pang of pity for them. Dusty ran a hand through his hair, the weight of something unsaid clear in his posture. "Dad just lectured me too and uh.." he trailed off, looking at his three friends. "I'm leaving Hartley."

The words hung in the air for a moment, sinking in slowly. Delilah's eyes widened in shock. "Wait, what? The fuck do you mean you're leaving Hartley? You can't just—"
