BUTTERFLY
Act One: Chapter Fifteen
❝ Back from the Dead ❞AT THE COSTUME STORE, DELILAH decided to separate from Spider, allowing herself some space to think. She wandered around the aisles, picking a costume for herself and Ant, her mind drifting to the conversation not too long ago. Regret filled her. She knew she should've told him the truth, but the thought of losing him altogether was worse than telling a lie. A friendship was better than nothing is what she kept telling herself.
Suddenly, Spider appeared in front of her, a zombie mask on his face. "Boo!"
Delilah yelped, jumping back. "You dickhead!" she laughed, playfully swatting his chest.
Spider chuckled, pulling off the mask. "Costumes are lame. Let's just skip 'em."
The brunette rolled her eyes and pointed at the cart piled with costumes. "Not a chance. I'm only missing yours."
With a shrug, Spider slung his arm over her shoulder, his familiar weight comforting. "Alright, let's find mine, then."
After their little shopping trip, they went straight to Dusty's house since he lived closer to where Amerie lived. They all got ready together, Delilah in charge of finishing their looks up.
As soon as she finished adjusting her mummy costume, which was a crop top that resembled bandages, she moved on to help her friends. She helped Dusty straighten his knight costume before moving on to Spider, who reluctantly allowed her to apply eyeliner and vampire fangs (she had to beg). Finally, she applied Ant's skeleton make-up that he requested for.
When they arrived, the sun was still bright, but the house party was already in full swing with music and people littered inside the house. Delilah scanned the room, unimpressed by the costumes that barely fit the theme. She followed the boys inside, where they were greeted by Amerie, who nervously smiled at the group.
"Well, well, well. Didn't take you for the house-trashing type, Ms. Wadia," Dusty teased, taking a swig from a bottle he brought with him.
"I am now," Amerie laughed, her eyes darting between the four. Delilah offered her a polite smile, sipping her beer as Dusty flirted shamelessly. She never understood why he did it, but she didn't care enough to ask.
