Just as promised, Wednesday waited on the benches in front of terminal three, having watched the plane dock. The doors opened and the first few people walked out, some of them staring at her and her family, dressed for a funeral. Her brother held up a big sign: 'ENID!!' In big red letters, highly contrasting to his black and white striped polo.
Rapidly, Enid pushed through the crowds of people and her eye's met Wednesday's. With a queal and a jump, she ran to Wednesday, who had already braced for impact. With a hug strong enough to break her ribs, Enid twirled her around and lifted her feet off as if she was light as a feather.
"Enid–" Wednesday choked, patting her back.
"WILLA!!" She responded, her excitement palpable. She loosened her grip, but refused to let go. Wednesday could manage to breathe. "...Sorry, I don't know my own strength half the time..."
"It's okay." Wednesday hugged her back, knowing her family would say something about this.
A colourfully dyed tail beat from side to side behind Enid's back. Wednesday realised there was fur against her face– wolfish ears on the side of Enid's face.
"At least you didn't turn into a full wolf. We'd be escorted very quickly." Wednesday almost smiled, considering no-one could actually see her face.
Enid let go, picking her bags back up and giving a shake– her fur and werewolf features reducing to nothing. But she was quick to grab back onto Wednesday, holding her arm with her empty hand.
"I brought a change of clothes in my hand luggage in case I did.." She admitted sheepishly. Wednesday huffed– Amused, the sound reminiscent of a laugh. Enid smiled, leaned in to bump her lightly.
Leaving the airport, to find their car parked outside
"Is that... A hearse?" Enid asked, seeing the large car.
"Of course. Don't worry, it has seats in the back. It's our main car." She waved to lurch in the driver's seat, opening the door for Enid to go in. There were, in fact, three rows of two seats. One on each side, one to the back of the driver's seats.
"Main car?" Enid sat, doing her seatbelt.
"We have multiple, Enid. Easily one for each of us. including the child." Wednesday told her, slightly blind to the fact it was uncommon for most people to have more than two cars– maybe three at most.
"Really? That's literally so cool!" She said, excited. She waved to Pubert in his booster seat. Just as Wednesday sat down beside her, Enid's eyes landed on some installed cupboards. "What're they for?" She asked.
"Food, drinks." Wednesday opened the door, unslotting the lock that kept it from flying open. It was a mini-fridge– in a car! "Would you like a drink? I can imagine it was a long flight."
"Uh, yes please!" She said, shocked. "D'you have soda?"
"Most of them." Wednesday skimmed– "Fanta. Your favourite, is it not?"
"You remembered?" Enid smiled, "Please." She nodded, taking a can from Wednesday. She took a second glance. "Why are the letters so sharp?" She asked.
"Oh, it's the British kind. It's better for you." Wednesday pointed out.
"Is there a difference?" Enid asked.
"Massively. I will say, most of our 'snacks' are from Europe– But I'm sure you'll like them."
Enid cracked open the can, took a swig. "Oh!" She tasted the fizzy juice in her mouth. "It's nice. Different– but nice." She nodded, drinking some more. "This is so cool– I feel like a celebrity! This is like a little Limo!"
"We have one." Wednesday commented, "But it's only really for fancy things, as you can imagine, they're a hassle to drive. We can take it out to NYC if you want to feel fancy." She gave her a little bump on the shoulder.
"REALLY?!" Enid's eyes lit up, the bridge of her nose furring, her features wolfy.
"Of course Enid, you're our guest." Wednesday nodded, amused by her.
With a squeak, she wrapped her arms around Wednesday, her face in her shoulder. Ears popped out from the side of her face, she cuddled up to Wednesday.
"Okay, It's not the biggest deal in the world." Wednesday patted her back slowly, unsure what to do.
"I just can't wait to spend time with you, Weds!" She pulled back, settling to just lean on Wednesday with a smile, her furry features still on her face.
"We'll have a whole year to spend together in a little more than a month." Wednesday told her as the car drove onto an off-road trail. It was just them and the surrounding forest.
"Ooo– this is cool. Surely your house isn't this close?" Enid asked,
"No, no. This is a back-country trail. It's just the quickest way home, we'll be there in forty minutes" Wednesday told her, the pugsley in shotgun playing with the music.
"Oh, so I have all the time in the world to catch you up on everything?" Enid smiled, pulling up her phone. Wednesday groaned.

It was a scenic drive to the mansion, passing by fields and hills as they entered the 'highlands' of New Jersey. Like Wednesday said, the drive wasn't longer than an hour.
Wednesday jumped out the car, taking one of Enid's bags for her. Enid looked up, noticing all the windows staring back, looking down on her with her jaw slack. The hulking gothic manor towered over each and every one of them.
"I knew your family was rich, but oh my god, Weds.. This is INSANE. –And very awesome, don't get me wrong– but DAMN." She marvelled at the building towering over them.
Mortica was the one to speak up, "Our family is heavily privileged, as you can see. It's mostly old money made in trade and farming– but I have a good job to pay for other luxuries." She encouraged Enid inside. "Please make yourself at home, a friend of Wednesday's is pretty much part of the family."
Enid adored the wooden house, taking her shoes off to put on the large box by the door. "It's beautiful." She stood in awe.
"I should ask, dear, what room would you like to stay in?" Moricia hung up her jacket on the freestanding coat rack.
"I can CHOOSE?" She gasped, "Well– this is probably the only time I'll have with Willa– Wednesday...until school starts again. "You cool with being roomies again?" She asked Wednesday, clinging to her arm.
"I'll have to deconstruct the guillotine over my bed. But I really don't care where you sleep." Wednesday shrugged.
"Guillotine..? Like– the French thing for killing people..?" The colour drained from Enid's face.
"Precisely." Wednesday nodded, before waving Lurch over. "When you have time, could you just... take down my bed frame? Replace it– with a normal one. It's probably a good idea to get a mattress without a wooden block, too..."
Lurch groaned a yes, and shambled his way upstairs.
"Who is that..?" Enid asked, surprised.
"Our undead butler." Gomez chimed in. "He died in the 70s, poor fellow."
"Right. Because that's... normal." Enid nodded, before turning to Wednesday with a sudden Idea. "You need to give me a house tour!" She squealed, jumping on the spot.
"Follow me," Wednesday dragged Enid to the living room.
