(~Your POV + Time Skip~)
"Your first kiss with fire guy was in the flippin' rain? I mean- Did you plan for that specifically or ya both truly couldn't see how ironic that is?" Undyne teases me. Her smug grin alone is enough to break me. Meanwhile, Alphys is taking freaking notes.
'Why did I tell them?'
I cover my face in embarrassment, whining, "I got caught up in the heat of the moment." Undyne laughs harder and turns to Alphys sitting beside us on the couch, "I bet the bag of bones would get a kick out of that one, huh Alphys?" "D-D-Definitely."
I got so caught up in conversation that I forgot what was going on. The group is training for another one of their missions today. Alphys, Undyne, and I are watching the matches from the far side of the training room. Gaster is overseeing a battle between his two sons kind of like a judge. It hasn't been that long since it started. Sans is in the middle of the room, staring down at his shaking and wrapped hands.
'Did it end already? Who won?'
Pap nervously walks to his father's side and has a private word with him. Gaster observes Sans briefly with firm eyes. "Undyne! Take Sans' place!" Gaster then commands loudly. Undyne stands up from her seat with a confident smile, "Be right back!" She rushes to the middle of the room excitedly whereas Sans' spirit looks absolutely crushed. "Sans, how long has it been since you slept?" His father questioned. There was nothing but seriousness in his tone. Sans hesitates to answer. Gaster easily takes that as an opportunity to lecture him, "You are still unable to use your magic which means you've made no effort to try and restore it. If it were by my opinion, you would be training anyway. However, your brother is insistent on letting you sit out. He fails to see the frailty behind these actions but I do. If you can't even fight your brother under these conditions, how am I to believe that you can push yourself beyond your limits to defeat an enemy on future missions?" I force myself to hold back my tongue.
'Isn't Sans pushing himself over his limit what got him to over exertion in the first place? He pushed himself so hard and you expect him to push even harder?!'
"I'd say Sans has more capability than you. He's actually the one going out on runs while you sit and watch." Grillby blesses us with his presence while walking past his skeletal brother. "Your input was not required nor is it wanted." Gaster remarks angrily. Grillby responds without even turning back, "Interesting of you to think that yours was any better." Grillby puts a hand on Sans' shoulder and guides him to where the we're sitting. I smile encouragingly once they get close enough. "It's alright, Grillbz. I don't need you or Pap trying to defend me." Sans finds a spot on the floor to sit on. The skeleton let out a loud sigh as he closed his eye sockets.
'It's only because they care about you.'
Grillby takes Undyne's original spot next to me on the couch. I shiver as he wraps an arm around my shoulders. "I'm glad you've decided to leave the bedroom." He commends me. I lean towards his embrace and lay my head into his shoulder. The main factor pushing me out of depressed solitude was that my soulmate decided to stay. Once he went downstairs, my soul kept pestering me to follow him. "Does this soul-induced separation anxiety ever go away?" I whine in despair. Grillby lets out a chuckle, "With time, it will..."
I wish I could understand everything that comes with having a soulmate. Unfortunately, it's not something to be believed in by humans. On the other hand, it's an entire part of life and culture for monsters. "What exactly does that mean?" I ask. Sans is the one to answer first, "The reason your soul keeps doin' that is because it's tryin' to sync with your soulmate's." I tilt my head in slight confusion, "So, the heartbeat?" "Not just t-t-t-that. Your m-magic has t-to f-flow t-together as well." Alphys adds.
