The following week felt like a whirlwind of activity. Classes were in full swing, and with the tournament behind them, Kuroo found himself increasingly lost in thoughts of Daishou. The karaoke night had ignited something in him, a spark that lingered long after they parted ways. Every interaction, every playful argument between them seemed to deepen the connection he was starting to recognize.
Kuroo sat in the campus café with Bokuto, who was animatedly discussing their next volleyball match against another team.
"Did you see the way I spiked that ball last time? Pure perfection!" Bokuto exclaimed, his eyes wide with excitement.
Kuroo chuckled, shaking his head. "You mean the time you almost knocked the referee out with your enthusiasm?"
"Details, details! I'm just making sure everyone remembers who the real star is," Bokuto replied, grinning. "But seriously, we need to practice more. I want us to crush the next team!"
"Absolutely. But we should also strategize. You know, think about the angles," Kuroo suggested, trying to focus. But his thoughts kept drifting to Daishou, who he hadn't seen much since karaoke.
Bokuto must have noticed his distraction because he leaned in closer. "Hey, you alright? You've been a bit... preoccupied."
Kuroo hesitated, unsure how to articulate the whirlwind of emotions he was feeling. "Yeah, just thinking about Daishou and how well we clicked during the tournament and karaoke."
Bokuto's eyes lit up. "Ohhh, is this a thing? Are you two going to become a couple?"
Kuroo felt a rush of heat to his cheeks. "I don't know yet. I mean, we have this connection, but it's still new. I want to make sure we're both on the same page before jumping into anything."
"Fair enough. Just make sure you don't miss your chance! You know how quick things can change," Bokuto said, his tone suddenly serious. "If you like him, go for it!"
Kuroo nodded, feeling a sense of urgency in Bokuto's words. "You're right. I just need to figure out how to approach it."
As if on cue, his phone buzzed. Kuroo looked down to see a message from Daishou: Hey! Want to grab coffee later?
His heart leaped. Yes! What time? he quickly typed back.
While waiting for Daishou's reply, Kuroo felt a mix of excitement and nerves. Could this be the moment where he took a step toward something more?
"Dude, you're practically glowing," Bokuto teased, giving him a playful nudge. "Just remember to breathe!"
Kuroo rolled his eyes but couldn't suppress a smile. "Thanks for the reminder, Bokuto."
"Let me know how it goes!" Bokuto added, as he finished his drink and prepared to head to class.
After a few moments, Daishou replied: How about 3? I'll meet you at the café on campus.
Kuroo's heart raced. Sounds perfect!
When the time finally arrived, Kuroo found himself anxiously adjusting his shirt, feeling a blend of excitement and apprehension. The campus café was buzzing with students, but his focus was entirely on the door.
When Daishou walked in, looking casual yet effortlessly charming, Kuroo felt a rush of warmth. He waved him over, feeling his heart flutter in anticipation.
"Hey!" Daishou greeted, sliding into the seat across from Kuroo. "I hope you don't mind that I suggested this place. I thought it might be nice to catch up."
"Not at all! I love this café. Plus, I could use the caffeine," Kuroo replied, trying to play it cool.
Daishou chuckled. "You're probably still buzzing from karaoke, right?"
"Definitely! It was such a blast. I didn't expect to have that much fun," Kuroo admitted, feeling the warmth of the memory. "You were great too, by the way."
"Thanks! I think we made a pretty good duet," Daishou said, a hint of a blush creeping onto his cheeks. "It felt different, didn't it?"
Kuroo nodded, feeling the weight of Daishou's words. "Yeah, it did. There's something about singing together that made it feel... more intimate."
Daishou met his gaze, a serious expression on his face. "I've been thinking about us since then. It's like the rivalry we had has transformed into something different, something I really enjoy."
Kuroo's heart raced, the air between them thick with anticipation. "I've been feeling that too. I mean, I value our friendship, but I can't ignore this connection we've developed."
Daishou leaned closer, his eyes sparkling with curiosity. "So, what do you think we should do about it?"
Kuroo felt a wave of bravery wash over him. "I think we should explore it. I'd like to spend more time with you, see where this leads."
A smile spread across Daishou's face, bright and genuine. "I'd like that too. Let's take it slow, see where things go."
Their conversation flowed easily after that, filled with laughter and stories. They discussed classes, shared favorite movies, and even joked about their most embarrassing moments in volleyball. With each passing minute, Kuroo felt the bond between them strengthen.
As they finished their drinks, Kuroo knew this was just the beginning. The thrill of possibility hung in the air, and he was eager to see where their relationship would lead.
"Hey, I know it's still early, but would you want to grab dinner later this week? Just us?" Kuroo asked, feeling a rush of hope.
"I'd love that," Daishou replied, a warm smile lighting up his face. "How about Friday? I know a great place nearby."
"It's a date," Kuroo said, the words feeling both exhilarating and terrifying.
As they left the café, Kuroo felt a sense of clarity. He was ready to embrace this new chapter, ready to explore the connection that had blossomed between them.
With Daishou by his side, the future felt bright, and Kuroo couldn't wait to see where this journey would take them.
To be continued...
