Friday arrived with a mix of anticipation and nervous energy. Kuroo spent the day trying to focus on his classes, but his mind kept wandering back to his upcoming dinner with Daishou. He found himself replaying their last conversation, the warmth of their shared laughter still echoing in his mind.
As evening approached, Kuroo stood in front of the mirror, adjusting his hair for what felt like the hundredth time. "It's just dinner," he muttered to himself, trying to calm his nerves. "Just two friends hanging out."
But it felt like so much more. The prospect of stepping into something new with Daishou made his heart race.
When he arrived at the restaurant—a cozy place known for its intimate atmosphere—Kuroo spotted Daishou waiting by the entrance. He was dressed casually but elegantly, and the way he smiled when he saw Kuroo made Kuroo's heart flutter.
"Hey! You look great!" Daishou greeted, his eyes sparkling.
"Thanks! You too," Kuroo replied, feeling his cheeks warm slightly. "I'm glad we could do this."
As they were seated at a table with soft lighting and a view of the bustling street outside, Kuroo felt the tension between them shift to a more relaxed vibe. They perused the menu, making small talk about their week, the ongoing volleyball practice, and their classes.
"So, are you still working on that project for your economics class?" Daishou asked, leaning forward with genuine interest.
"Yeah, it's been a challenge. I never thought economics could be this complicated," Kuroo admitted with a laugh. "What about you? How's your project on environmental policy going?"
"It's actually pretty fascinating. I'm learning a lot about sustainability," Daishou replied, his eyes lighting up. "It's amazing how much impact our choices can have."
As they chatted, Kuroo felt more at ease. The connection between them was growing, and he was grateful for the easy flow of their conversation.
After they ordered, Kuroo couldn't shake the feeling that something significant was brewing between them. The flicker of attraction was undeniable, and he could sense Daishou felt it too.
"So, I was thinking..." Kuroo began, hesitating slightly. "What if we went to the beach next weekend? Just to relax, maybe bring some volleyballs and hang out?"
Daishou's eyes lit up. "That sounds amazing! I haven't been to the beach in ages. We could have a mini-volleyball tournament!"
"Exactly! It'll be fun. Plus, we can grab some food from that little taco stand nearby," Kuroo suggested, feeling the excitement build.
"I'm in!" Daishou replied, grinning widely. "It'll be great to spend more time together."
Their food arrived, and as they dug in, the atmosphere between them felt charged. Kuroo caught himself stealing glances at Daishou, admiring the way he smiled and how animated he became when talking about his passions.
"You know," Daishou said, wiping his mouth after a bite. "I've really enjoyed hanging out with you lately. It's nice to have someone to share this with."
Kuroo felt his heart swell at the sincerity in Daishou's voice. "I feel the same way. It's like we've opened up a whole new level of friendship."
Daishou met his gaze, and for a moment, the world around them faded. "I've wanted to tell you something for a while now."
Kuroo's breath caught in his throat. "What is it?"
"I really like you, Kuroo. More than just friends," Daishou confessed, his tone steady yet vulnerable. "I've been feeling it since karaoke, and it's only grown stronger."
Kuroo felt a rush of warmth spread through him, and he couldn't help but smile. "I like you too, Suguru. I've been trying to figure out how to say it without scaring you off."
A grin broke out on Daishou's face, and the tension that had been building between them transformed into something light and joyous. "I'm glad we're on the same page."
Their food forgotten for a moment, Kuroo leaned across the table, feeling the distance between them shrink. "So, what does this mean for us?" he asked softly, his heart racing.
"I think it means we take things one step at a time," Daishou suggested, a warm smile on his face. "I want to see where this goes without rushing into anything."
Kuroo nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. "That sounds perfect. I'm all in for that."
Just then, Bokuto burst through the door, oblivious to the moment Kuroo and Daishou had just shared. "Hey! I came to check on my favorite duo! How's the date going?"
Kuroo felt his face heat up as he and Daishou exchanged glances, both of them trying to stifle laughter.
"Just having dinner, Bokuto!" Kuroo called out, waving his friend over. "Care to join us?"
"Of course! I was getting lonely out there!" Bokuto said, plopping down at their table, completely oblivious to the significance of the moment he interrupted.
As the night continued, Kuroo and Daishou shifted back into their friendly banter with Bokuto, but there was a new lightness in the air. The bond between them felt stronger, and Kuroo couldn't help but glance at Daishou, feeling grateful for how far they'd come.
As they wrapped up the evening and prepared to leave, Daishou leaned in, whispering just loud enough for Kuroo to hear, "We'll talk more about this later, okay?"
Kuroo nodded, his heart racing at the promise of what was to come. "Definitely."
With Bokuto animatedly recounting some ridiculous story from practice, Kuroo felt a sense of excitement and anticipation for what lay ahead. They were navigating new waters together, and Kuroo was ready to dive in.
To be continued...
