My alarm began to play "Miss Jackson," by Panic! At The Disco as I shot up from a sleepless night. I took in my surroundings. Last night I got careless and left the spade and box with my bloody clothes on my desk next to my queen size bed. I ripped off the purple blanket humming along with the music. I glance at the clock on the desk next to the black converse box. I stretched out a pop noticing that its only 5:25 and that I had plenty of time to plan.
I sat at the desk in the corner of my grey painted room. Who should I go after next? Jackie might take a lot more planning because of the fact she's stronger, but Jess is way too annoying. I bet I could make her cower. Or should I try for a random person? I guess for another prostitute, that all must be fun. They probably wouldn't expect it. What could I do to scare them?
A knock at my door sounded throughout the room ripping me from my planning. I groaned, "What," I complained as the door came open. "Amy was found dead behind the bowling alley, she was stabbed." I looked at him with confused eyes, fighting a smile that was coming at my lips. His bright blue eyes studying my reaction, he shook his head sending his brown hair flying in different ways. "It's something that I wanted you to know. The police said whoever is doing this is targeting pretty seniors in high school." I looked at him disbelief that was a rather wrong idea now I'm slightly angered. That was not was I was doing. "Don't you have some where to be?" I asked the blue eyed male that I quite frankly wanted to punch for relaying the wrong information. "I just wanted you to be safe, which is why, if you want to go anywhere, we are going together, okay? I don't care the time, we go together, and there are no arguments, and yes I will be checking on you." My heart stopped as I glared at him. "I don't need a babysitter and you can't come with me to school, and why is it that you suddenly care? You didn't even noticed what I did your girlfriend was around, you were too busy trying to see how far you could get your tongue down her throat." I stopped at my own words when I noticed how teary eyed his ice eyes became. "I'm sorry," he choked out, "Cassie, I'm sorry," he said again, only louder, his voice cracking. I sighed as I pet his shoulder, "I know, Jake, it's okay." I said with a slight smile, can't stab the messenger.
"Oh, Nathan is going to be staying with us for a few months, so, I'll be in here with you, he won't touch you." The terrorizing memory shot back causing me to shake. "I have to get ready for school, I'm sorry, thank you Jake," I smiled as he left me to get ready for school, ew.
I started to walk down stairs after I put on my baby blue sweater and black leggings. My hair was simply brushed and it is way too much work to put on makeup, not to mention the fact I'm lazy and horrible at it. How can people do perfect makeup every day? These are the questions that haunt my mind. I giggled as my foot hit the last step as Jake stood up in jeans and a blank white tee shirt. I might have to steal that one later. Eh, not the biggest crime I've done.
The walk to school was silent, and rather boring. I couldn't even listen to music, like why? "Do you have your phone with you?" I looked at him with my eyes knit together. "I lost it." I perked up, with a smile. It's not like I need it, I have Kiwi. "How would you call for help, and did you lose it at home?" Whoa, why so many questions? I actually had that coming. "I think I dropped it as I was walking somewhere, it was just a disposable phone, and I just need to get a new one? Shall that be a challenge you accept today Jake?" I asked trying to make is seem like I wasn't lying. I have no clue if it worked. I should really work on my lying. "Catch ya later!" I shouted as I walked into the school.
In home room with a teacher's name I cannot for the life of me pronounce, three police men walked in, one of them clearing their throat. "Can we have Cassandra Lane, could we speak with you please?" I calmly stood, with all of my mistakes running though my head. What is it I forgot! "Please follow us," I nodded my head, well that seemed guilty. Out in the bright highway, the questions began.
"Where were you last night?"
"At home, in my room,"
"Could anyone verify that?" I though back in the depths of my mind, Jake? He didn't know I left, did he? Was he even home?
"Either my brother Jack was there or I was home alone, I don't quite remember, why?" If I stay clueless, would I be able to fool them?"Ms. Lane, it was reported that you and Amy were having a rather heated argument in which you mentioned some unkind words about prostitution, we are just ruling out all of our leads." He reported kindly. I really shouldn't have called her a slut huh, oh well past mistakes.
"That may have happened, however I was trying to stand up for myself, you see her and her little group of friends are always harassing me, and I have grown very weary of it. Two weeks ago they put a 'Kick Me' sign on my back and then did it again while we had that heated discussion back at my locker. IT was merely a coincidence that it happened to be true. They have done countless other things but this is the most recent." I admitted without thinking of the consequences.
"I am very sorry to hear this Cassandra, however, if you ever have any information do not hesitate to call," he said as he handed me a card.
"Actually, there is one thing I can think of, and please, I implore you to keep this anonymous." I paused as he shook his head in agreement. "When I mentioned her pimp, the only emotion she could give in her eyes was fear. However that is the only thing I know about it." I sent him a sad smile, painful memories of the abuse I've had flash as fast as my pulse. He mumbled thanks, as the bell rang for the next class.
I skipped to my locker almost too excited, I stopped when I saw Jake standing there. I walked up to him, "Do I look like I need an escort, or something? It's just about a, I don't know, fifteen minute walk?" I said, my voice dripping with sarcasm. "Yes, you do, and we both know that I am an insanely overprotective brother, and yes, I will stay that way." I stared him in the eyes, his height over me annoying me to death. "Can you not? I'm not a little girl that needs protecting, you should get a girlfriend, that way you could go and protect her, instead of having wasted efforts on me, because obviously I'm too fabulous to kill." I state with a smile. I knew I wasn't going to get killed. I mean, unless there was another killer out there, which is entirely possible, but Kiwi and I would put up a fight. If I ever bothered to clean him. I rolled my eyes at the work I have laying ahead of me. "Come on, I have the jeep, we could go get ice cream," he just completely brushed off my rant, rude. Wait, what happened? What am I asking this in my head! "What happened? You only offer ice cream at bad news, who died?" He dropped his head almost instantly, "Nathan is coming sooner than expected, he's waiting for us at home, and dad said that he has to stay in your room, like the butt he is. So, yeah." My heart dropped this. Isn't. Happening.
