We never did get ice cream, and Jake didn't live up to the challenge of a new disposable phone, instead he just drove us home. "Why can't he stay in your room again?" I asked hoping there would be a chance to get him away from me. "Dad believes the two youngest should share a room, not the two oldest. I even told him I didn't mind, but he still insisted that you two share a room." I just hugged my knee to my chest, he could always try again.
~Flashback~
"I gave you a chance, you cost me twelve hundred dollars!" Nathan screeched as I felt a stinging pain to my abdomen. "If you hadn't slapped the guy, and just behaved then you would be just fine, and happy. Yeah, I wouldn't be to certain what happened to you, nor do I really care, I'm just pissed that I no longer have the money!" He kept kicking my sides until I couldn't breathe anymore and collapsed. "You tried to sell me to a creep, and again, you tried to sell me in general," I wheezed. "You ungrateful bitch, I tried to help you," the blows kept coming; only they were started to get softer, or I was just getting immune to it. "For all we know, he would have taken care of you, broke you," he cooed. Now starting to stoke my tear filled face. He cocked his head to the side, "M, my, you are easily broken, a nice, and strong beating was all it really would take huh, to break a fifteen year old girl. A beautiful one at that, we just have to cover these awful bruises on your face." I hated myself, I felt myself beginning to cower away from him. I will not give up.
I tried to stand up, but my body wouldn't allow it to happen. The entire time I was just barely moving in failed attempts to break free from the hold of soreness. "Oh, you won't get far Cassie," was all Nathan said, soon I stopped trying to let a long needed sleep drown me out.
When I woke up I had no real recollection on what had happened, I just knew that I was sore, everywhere. I gently brushed my fingers along my face to feel it swollen and heated to the touch. I could taste the metallic iron of blood. My chest felt like someone had an anvil just resting on it, but what scared me is how heavy my legs felt. I didn't remember anything really happening to them; they felt like I had ran the distance of a county and back. I lifted my focus away from my body, and around the room. The dark, almost black walls with no windows caged me. A steal door locked shut with a stream of light coming from underneath with a blocked path from what I think is a foot. There was no clear light source in the room itself, but it was just cold and damp. There didn't appear to be any other furniture except for the mattress I was laying on.
I staggered to the door and pounded on it. "I have to pee," I yelled along with the steady beat of pounding. I heard a click and limped back a step when Nathan opened the door. "Shut up before I sedate you again, gah, no wonder the guy didn't buy you, youre annoying." He muttered as he grabbed my wrist pulling me forward. "You did what?" I whispered as I snatched my hand from him. "You tried to sell me?" My voice grew with terrible anger and it was then I remembered the abuse I was put through before. My body started to visibly shake as be brought me upstairs and to the main floor. He put a finger to his lips signaling to be quite, "I know she's here, hes my sister, and you bloody cousin don't sell her to a complete stranger, just give her back." I relaxed a little when I heard Jake's voice in the other room. Then I did the only thing I could think of, I screamed his name.
~Flashback over~
I looked to the driver's side of the car only to notice was empty, and I was in front of my house. I drew in a deep breath, as I slid out of the passenger's seat, and sadly, up to my room.
"Hello, Cassie," Nathan greeted with a smirk as I walked in, I shuttered and put on a brave face. Nathan sat on my bed, with his black hair tasseled and all over the place, his tall and muscular frame would look appealing, well, to those who have no idea what it is he has done to and with females. He may look the part of a dashing bad boy type savior, but he is the walking devil, void of all emotion, and that's coming from me. His hazel eyes hold lust and an unbreakable thirst for dominance. He looked me over before standing up, and closing the door as I doged out of his way and too the other side of the room. "You need to be more careful or you'll get caught." I eyed his like he was crazy, and that I had no clue what he was talking about. "Poppy," he stated as my breath hitched my my throat. "It was rather adorable to try and watch climb out of that grave, you leg lurched over the rim of it. I though you would have noticed that it wasn't smart of you to jump in, with your height at least." I recomposed myself, even though he described it rather perfectly. "What are you talking about, Nathan?" I questioned with as much venom a person could wave in their words. He simply held up a box, "so if I gave this to the police you wouldn't care?" My eyes shot open, and I was lost for words.
"I don't even know what you mean," I finally said, even though it was quite obvious that there was fear and anxiety waved into my gaze and body language. "I saw everything, well, the actually murder not so much, my second in command did, I only though it to be a good idea to watch you, or, I guess you could say stalk you since I tried to sell you. Make sure you didn't tell anyone." He was waving the box along with his hand gestures. "I won't, if you just leave me the alone," I hummed in a low tone. He started to advance towards me as I began taking steps back and to the right, trying to avoid being cornered until I could escape. "Cassie, with what you've done, you could easily land with a death sentence, mainly because you show that you are unaffected by it. The worse id get is what, a couple months, if they believe you lies." He stated as if it were true. "Do you think they would rather keep a murder, or someone how lets people live with a large sum of cash?" I felt my mouth open slightly know that he was right. We both had something to black mail each other with, only his was far bigger than mine.
"Why are you here?" I asked meekly because all of my courage drained. "You didn't hear, Uncle Fred died," I stopped moving, which allowed him to get me into a corner with my momentary freeze. "How?" I asked, already pinned physically and emotionally. I was too traumatized to actually function with him so close to me. All Nathan did was shrug his shoulders. He started to back away, "go eat food." Nathan said as he marched off, leaving the door opened behind him.
I took the original box and hid it in my closet alongside the other one when Jake came bounding up stairs. I left lifeless and numb as he pulled me into a hug. All the fear I have managed to suppress came in and rolled over me like a tank. I felt nauseous and ran to the bathroom, with nothing happening I just sat there and cried until a wave of darkness came.
When I woke up I walked out to see a sleeping Nathan lying on my bed as I crept out of my room. It was midnight as snuck down stairs and out into the back yard. I grabbed kiwi out of where I buried him and went into the bathroom on the lower level. I switched the blade out as I ran the warm water over it. The light pink rush of water made its way down the drain as I rubbed off all the parts I could get. I looked over the blade carefully looking for any blood that I might have missed. Satisfied with my cleaning job, I decided that I want to go star gaze, in the park.
Having already been over two weeks since Poppy's death, the spot where her body was found was cleaned and there were no markers saying that I couldn't go there. I lay down on the grassy field and stared up in the sky trying to collect my thoughts.
After about an hour or so I got up, feeling the need to talk to someone. The park was halfway between the cemetery and my house so I decided I'd go to the graveyard. Are they even the same thing? I don't know.
The walk wasn't too bad as I was lost in the thoughts of whose grave I should go to. I could go to my mom's but, even if she is worm food I can't talk to her about this, it's still too weird, so I made up my mind to go to Jazmine's.
"Hey, friend hasn't been too long since I was last here, but I need someone to talk to. My life has become a blur. I have lost pretty much all human emotions when it comes to stuff you should regret and feel guilty for. The only really running my life now is this sadistic bloodlust I have, and the over whelming fear because of Nathan. Your one of the only four people that knows what he did to me. He beat me Jazmine, and now he's staying my room? That isn't supposed to happen." I heard my own voice crack as I cried again. I cried because I miss her, and I am terrified of his true intentions on being here. "Jazz, he knows what I've done. He knows I killed Poppy, does he know about Amy?" I heard a throat clear behind me and my heart stopped. "You suck at sneaking out," I closed my eyes as Nathan sat down beside me. "Did you really think Jazmine's car crash was really an accident?"
