The following day dragged on, and despite her efforts to stay distracted, every moment felt heavy with anticipation. She couldn't shake the feeling that Logan would reach out, that he would text or call, but her phone remained silent.
When Saturday rolled around, Alouette found herself wandering around campus, desperately searching for a distraction. She stopped by a cozy café, hoping the aroma of coffee and pastries would soothe her mind. As she took a seat by the window, she pulled out her phone, willing herself to resist the urge to check for messages.
But just as she settled in with her latte, a familiar voice broke through her thoughts.
"Hey, Lou."
Her heart skipped a beat as she turned to see Logan standing there, a casual smile on his lips. He looked effortlessly handsome, wearing a blue sweater, jeans, and a leather jacket that hugged him just right. For a moment, she felt her resolve waver.
"Logan," she replied, trying to keep her tone neutral. "What are you doing here?"
He shrugged, his eyes dancing with mischief. "Thought I'd grab a coffee. But I'm glad to see you."
Alouette forced a smile, her stomach twisting with uncertainty. "I'm just... taking a break."
He slid into the seat across from her, a playful grin on his face. "A break, huh? You look like you've been avoiding me."
"I haven't been avoiding you," she countered, though her voice lacked conviction. "Just busy."
Logan leaned in slightly, his gaze piercing. "Busy avoiding me, or busy pretending last night didn't happen?"
Her heart raced at his words, and she shifted uncomfortably in her seat. "I told you, it was a mistake."
"A mistake?" he echoed, tilting his head. "You didn't seem to think so last night."
Alouette felt a rush of heat to her cheeks. "We were both drunk, Logan."
"Yeah, and that's what makes it so interesting, right?" His voice was teasing, but she could sense a hint of something more serious behind it.
She narrowed her eyes, trying to hold her ground. "Interesting? I don't think getting drunk and hooking up with you is interesting at all."
"Maybe not," he said softly, leaning back in his chair. "But I think there's more to it than just that."
Alouette felt her breath catch in her throat. The intensity of his gaze made it hard to breathe. "Logan, can we just drop it?"
He held her gaze for a moment longer before leaning forward again, a playful smirk on his face. "Alright, I'll drop it for now. But you can't pretend you don't feel it, Lou."
She bit her lip, torn between frustration and attraction. "I don't know what I feel."
Logan reached across the table, lightly brushing his fingers against her hand. "You do. You just don't want to admit it."
Before she could respond, a voice interrupted them, drawing their attention. Louise and Amelia walked into the café, their laughter echoing in the air. Alouette felt a wave of relief wash over her.
"Hey, look who it is!" Louise exclaimed, her eyes flicking between Alouette and Logan. "Thought we'd find you here."
"Hey, girls," Alouette greeted, grateful for the distraction.
"What's the scoop?" Amelia asked, grinning. "Did you two finally confess your undying love for each other?"
Alouette felt her cheeks heat up as Logan chuckled, clearly enjoying the moment. "Nothing like that, just catching up."
