Infinite
I had vowed to Joy that I'd never let her go again, and I meant it with every fiber of my being.
But as we found ourselves being pursued by the Mind Cops, our only option was to board those balloons once more.
I gripped the rope tightly, desperately hoping another brainstorm wouldn't occur.
But just as the thought crossed my mind, a storm brewed-this time, instigated by Resentment.
I watched in horror as the sky rained down light bulbs filled with his malevolent ideas for Riley.
Joy, ever vigilant, noticed the insidious nature of these ideas immediately.
She pulled out a stick-like object from the balloon and started smashing the light bulbs with fierce determination.
Panic coursed through me at the prospect of history repeating itself.
I couldn't bear the thought of having to let Joy go, to allow her to sacrifice herself for Riley's sake.
The pain of our separation still haunted me-a stark, unbearable emptiness like the absence of sunlight on a cold, desolate day.
Although I understood that love sometimes demanded sacrifice, the thought of enduring the agony of losing Joy once more felt more than I could handle.
As I held onto the rope, I prayed we'd find another way to overcome Resentment's malice and protect Riley without being torn apart again.
Abruptly, an enormous light bulb materialized, dwarfing the others.
It triggered a flashback to the day I had to let Joy go, but this time, it sparked a new idea-one that I believed would keep us together.
As the light bulb hurtled towards us, I leaped onto it while Joy quickly secured it in her grasp. "Joy, we need this idea," I explained.
"If Riley takes one of these ideas, it could be a disaster!," she worried, her eyes filled with concern.
"Joy, this is our only chance," I assured her.
"But what if it tears us apart again?" she asked hesitantly.
"It won't," I promised, hoping to ease her fears.
"Infinite, I'm not sure about this," she confessed, her voice laced with uncertainty.
"I know we have to save Riley from Resentment, but... I can't bear to be separated from you again.
I don't want to live in a world without you."
Her heartfelt confession warmed my heart. "Joy, trust me," I smiled reassuringly. "It won't happen again."
She gazed into my eyes, her hesitation dissipating.
With a newfound determination, Joy released the balloon, and the light bulb launched us skyward, propelling us towards the tube leading back to headquarters.
I felt a surge of triumph as we soared through the air.
"You see? We did it!" I exclaimed, beaming at Joy. She returned my smile, sharing in our moment of victory.
Our celebration was short-lived, however, as I felt my clawed hand slipping from the tube.
I frantically tried to maintain my grip, but the screeching sound of my claws against the surface only signaled my impending fall.
In an instant, both Joy and I plummeted toward the ground, while the massive light bulb continued through the tube without us.
Our screams reverberated through the sky as we plummeted toward the ground.
