The adrenaline from their first race still coursed through Jax’s veins as he and his team celebrated their victory at the old airport. Laughter and cheers surrounded them, but Jax couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that settled deep in his gut. They had won, but he knew Ryan wouldn’t take it lightly.

“Let’s grab some food and regroup,” Ava suggested, her eyes shining with excitement. “We need to strategize for the next race and keep this momentum going.”

“Good idea,” Mason agreed, glancing at the food trucks lining the perimeter of the parking lot. “I could use a burger right about now.”

They made their way to a nearby food truck, the aroma of grilled meat filling the air. Jax’s stomach growled in response, and he ordered a burger and fries, ready to refuel after the intense race.

As they sat on a low wall eating, the atmosphere buzzed with energy, but Jax’s mind was elsewhere. “Did you see how Ryan reacted after the race?” he asked, taking a bite of his burger. “He looked furious.”

“He’s definitely not going to let this slide,” Ava replied, her expression serious. “We need to be prepared for anything he throws at us.”

Mason nodded, his brow furrowing in thought. “He’s probably already plotting something. We have to keep our guard up. Maybe we should scout out the next location before the race.”

“Good thinking,” Jax said, his mind racing. “The more we know about the terrain, the better we can strategize.”

After finishing their meals, they explored the area, observing the layout of the airport and mapping out potential pitfalls and shortcuts. The sun began to set, casting long shadows across the tarmac, and the air cooled as the excitement of the evening lingered.

“This is going to be a tougher course,” Jax noted, pointing to the area where the track would wind through a series of abandoned hangars. “There are a lot of obstacles to navigate. We need to work on our communication and stay close together.”

As they continued their scouting, Jax’s phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out to find a text from an unknown number: “I hope you enjoyed your little win. It won’t happen again.”

A chill ran down his spine as he showed the message to Ava and Mason. “This can’t be a coincidence,” he said, his heart racing. “It’s got to be Ryan.”

“Definitely sounds like him,” Mason replied, his expression grim. “He’s trying to intimidate you.”

“Let him try,” Jax said, feeling anger and determination rise within him. “We won’t back down.”

As they returned to their cars, the weight of Ryan’s threat loomed over them. “We need to stick together and keep our heads cool,” Jax reminded them. “If he tries anything during the next race, we have to be prepared to counter it.”

That night, Jax barely slept. His mind raced with thoughts of the upcoming race and the threat posed by Ryan. He replayed every moment of the first race, analyzing their performance and trying to anticipate how Ryan might react.

Morning came too quickly, and Jax felt the familiar knot of nerves in his stomach as he arrived at the garage. Ava and Mason were already there, checking their cars and making adjustments.

“Ready for round two?” Ava asked, her voice bright, though Jax could see the tension in her eyes.

“Yeah, but I can’t shake the feeling that Ryan is going to pull something,” Jax admitted, running a hand through his hair. “We need to be at the top of our game.”

Mason stepped forward, determination etched on his face. “We’re ready for whatever he throws at us. Let’s focus on our strategy and stick to the plan.”
