Shiver's POV

Only days ago, Shiver agreed to start a band with Frye and Big Man. Now she can't stop thinking about it.

"Shiver, stop messing around!" Her mother calls from the arena seats as she gets thrown into the side wall for the 57th time. "Tame that shark!"

Shiver winces in pain as large drops of blood drip down her neck. If she had a spine, she was sure it would have been broken by now.

"Are you an Octoling or a SHRIMP?" Her dad calls out nastily.

Shiver blinks back tears and leaps at the shark again. Working her way up from the tail, she claws her way up its back. Angrily, the shark rolls over several times, throwing her off.

"You are the most WORTHLESS daughter in the entire world. If you're the heir to our clan, I don't want to be around for its future." Shivers mother yells, walking out. Her father follows, leaving Shiver alone with a hungry shark.

Knowing there is no other option, Shiver once again throws herself at the shark. The shark, however, is ready for her. It whacks her with its massive tail, and the sound of it colliding with her body echoes across the whole stadium. Shiver lands on the ground with a thump, and the only clue that she was ever alive is the steady flow of blood coming from a gash in her chest.

Frye's POV

Frye waited for 15 minutes for Shiver to get to their recording studio, and then decided she had waited long enough. She figured she'd go collect Shiver from the arena, since her training had clearly run long.

She arrived at the top of the arena just in time to see the shark slap Shiver. The sound stung her ears, and she wrapped her arms around her head so she wouldn't hear.

A second later, she realized that the shark was advancing on the spot where Shiver had fallen. And then, with a gasp of horror, she realized that her friend hadn't moved. At all.

She watched the shark bite her chest, and it took approximately half a millisecond for Frye to get from the top of the stadium into the arena. She ran to her friend's side and threw the small octoling over her shoulder. She kicked the shark in the nose and ran. Moving as quickly as she could, she scaled the arena wall and carried Shiver out of the stadium.

Frye didn't know what to do with the injured girl. On the one hand, Shiver's house was really close. But on the other, she knew that the octo's parents would leave her to die wherever Frye set her.

She turned the opposite direction and carried the girl to her own house. When she walked in the door, her parents crowded around to see what was going on. After a full minute of being unable to go up the stairs because they were too close, she snapped. "Get out of my way so I can take care of her!" She yelled, raising her voice for the first time in months.

As soon as they backed up, she bolted up the stairs. Laying Shiver on her bed, she frantically ran around her room trying to find her first aid kit. When she finally found it, she realized that Shiver was barely breathing.

"No no no no no! Shiver! You are NOT allowed to die! You will KEEP BREATHING." She says sternly. She wraps up Shiver's chest. Then she starts to cry. "Shiver, please don't leave me. You're the only friend I've got."

✨time skip✨

After hours of painful waiting and hoping, Shiver moves. Very slightly, but enough for Frye to notice. She leaps up from her chair and rushes to her friend's side. "It's ok Shiver, I'm here. You're safe."
