Episode 4

[Early Morning Avoidance]

Days pass after the confession, and Alex feels conflicted. He can't stop thinking about Mia, but the guilt of crossing a professional boundary gnaws at him. He finds himself avoiding her messages more than usual.

Alex: to himself, pacing in his office, "This was a mistake. I shouldn't have said anything... She's my assistant."

He glances at his phone and sees a message from Mia waiting for him:

Mia (text): "Hey Alex, I was thinking we could go over some updates for the new system. Let me know when you're free."

Alex hesitates, his thumb hovering over the reply button. He knows he needs to respond, but the thought of talking to her now feels overwhelming. Instead, he puts the phone down and rubs his temples.

Alex: frustrated, "I can't do this. I can't let these feelings get in the way of our work."

For the next few days, Alex avoids calling or texting Mia unless it's strictly work-related. He buries himself in patient appointments, meetings, and administrative tasks, hoping that the distance will help clear his mind.

[Mia Notices the Change]

Mia, on the other hand, notices the shift immediately. Their once-friendly conversations have become colder, and the late-night chats have stopped. She starts to feel confused and hurt.

Mia: talking to a friend over the phone, "I don't know what happened. We were getting close, and now he's suddenly avoiding me. Maybe I did something wrong?"

Friend: "Or maybe he's just freaked out. Guys can get weird when things get serious. He'll come around."

Mia tries to focus on work, but the growing distance bothers her. She sends Alex another message:

Mia (text): "Alex, did I do something to upset you? You've been a bit distant lately."

Alex reads the message, guilt twisting in his stomach. He knows he has to say something, but the weight of his feelings makes him hesitate. After a few minutes, he finally responds:

Alex (text): "You didn't do anything, Mia. I've just been busy with work. Let's keep things focused on that for now."

[Confrontation]

Later that evening, Mia decides she can't take the uncertainty any longer. She asks for a call to talk things over. Alex, knowing he can't avoid her forever, reluctantly agrees.

The video call connects, and Mia's concerned face fills the screen.

Mia: serious, "Alex, what's going on? You've been avoiding me ever since we talked about our feelings. If I made things awkward, I'm sorry, but we need to talk about this."

Alex: sighing, running a hand through his hair, "It's not you, Mia. It's me. I crossed a line, and now I'm trying to backtrack. I don't want to make things messy between us. You deserve better than that."

Mia: softly, "Alex, we're both adults. We can handle this. But shutting me out isn't fair, and it's not professional either."

Alex feels a pang of guilt. She's right—his avoidance isn't just affecting their personal connection; it's affecting their work too.

Alex: nodding, "You're right. I've been avoiding you because... I feel guilty. I let my personal feelings interfere, and now I'm worried it'll ruin everything."
