There was a knock at her front door, and she got up from the couch quickly. "I'm coming!" Jasmin said. She opened the door and smiled. "Hey," she said. Jasper smiled. "Hey," he said. Jasmin got on her tippytoes and kissed him on the cheek. "Come to the kitchen," Jasmin said.  Jasper walked in and closed the door behind him. The two made it to the kitchen and he sat down at the kitchen table. She opened the fridge and set the tub of strawberry ice cream on the counter. She pulled a bowl from the cabinet and set it down.  She turned around and raised an eyebrow.

"Are you not taking off your coat or shoes?" Jasmin asked. "I'm still cold," Jasper replied with a soft smile. "I can turn up the heat-"No, it's alright," Jasper replied. "Alright, just let me know then," she said as she turned around and began scooping the ice cream. "You want some?" Jasmin asked. "No thank you," Jasper replied. "Suit yourself," Jasmin said. There was a short silence. "Hey Jaz," Jasper began. "Yes sweetheart?" She replied as she put the tub of ice cream away. "Have you thought about the future?" Jasper asked as he stood up and approached her. "Yeah, why?" She asked as she attempted to get the sprinkles off the top shelf.

He stood over her and grabbed it, handing it to her. "Thank You," Jasmin said as she sprinkled it on top of the ice cream. He walked off to the side and leaned his back against the counter. "Well, I was wondering if you saw us in it," Jasper continued. "Of course I do. Where are you going with this, silly?" Jasmin asked as she turned to him, the bowl of ice cream in her hand. "I've been thinking about this for a while now-"Go on, you're making me nervous," Jasmin replied, a laugh following right after. He turned to her with a look in his eyes. "Well?" Jasmin asked with a confused smile. "I think we should breakup Jaz," Jasper brought up.  She froze and her smile dropped. "What. Why?" Jasmin asked. He walked out of the kitchen and into the living room. She followed behind him. "Hello, you can't leave me without an explanation," Jasmin said. Jasper was quiet as he put his hand on the door handle.

"Tell me Jasper," Jasmin asked. "I really thought I could love you," Jasper replied as he turned around and faced her. Jasmin flinched. "What? " Her heart sank, and she went silent. "It wasn't supposed to go on this long-" Jasper began. "I was going to call it off in the beginning, but I started enjoying our time together and I started to care about you," Jasper went on. "You've had this thought in the back of your mind the entire time," Jasmin said. He avoided her gaze and shoved his hands in his pockets. "They were all right about you," Jasmin said. "Who?" Jasper asked. "They said you weren't showing your true colors," She began. "But I said I saw something in you that they didn't," she said. "Clearly I was blinded," Jasmin added. "W-What was I thinking?" She asked herself as tears filled her eyes. "Jasmin please," Jasper began.  Tears started pouring down her face. "Get out," Jasmin said. He stood there with a shocked expression. Almost as if it was happening to him. She pushed him to the side and opened her front door. "Get out!" She yelled. Jasper walked out and she slammed the door behind him.

She leaned against the door and sank to the floor. She buried her face in her hands and sobbed.  Jasper stood outside the door, pinching his nose bridge. Never again she said. Never again. That was eleven months of pouring herself into someone. Eleven months of meaningless "I love yous" Eleven Months of gifts, time, and empty moments. She vowed to never experience that again.

Now time has passed, and it's been a few years since her last relationship. It's crazy how a situation can change your entire perspective of something. Even though she's an adult now, time hasn't changed the way she thought of love, romance, and relationships.
