courage, don't desert me

The monster had sunk into the deep and disappeared along with three of Anya's friends, and her telekinesis couldn't do anything. She was too far, too out of energy considering she was knocked out not long before. She refused to do nothing about it, not when there was a chance she could help.

Afterward, Annabeth, Coach Hedge, and Buford the table rushed around repairing things so that the ship wouldn't sink.
Percy, despite being exhausted, searched the ocean for their missing friends. Jason, also exhausted, flew around the rigging like Superman, putting out fires from the second green explosion that had lit up the sky just above the mainmast. Anya and Piper tried all they could do to locate Leo, Hazel, and Frank. Piper through her dagger and Anya through a few of each of their belongings, trying to find any signal of them near the ship. She had a bottle of Ibuprofen next to her, one of Leo's really dirty shirts ( gross ), a gem she found from Hazel's room, and an arrow from Frank's. Anya focused on sending their energies, but it was far too faint for her to even tell if they were alive.

"Anything?" Anya asked Piper. She opened her eyes, black once again. Piper sighed, shaking her head and putting the dagger on her bed.

"Three black SUVs driving north from Charleston, they're packed with Roman demigods. Giant eagles, of course. And every so often it shows me glowing purple spirits in ghostly chariots. They're all thundering up 1-95 toward New York and Camp Half-Blood," said Piper.

"Dammit . . . " Anya closed her eyes again tried to concentrate, but her mind sent her back to a different memory. Percy in front of her, falling down into the dark abyss and all she could do was stand there. She opened her eyes, taking two more pills and leaving her hunt for them at a dead end. But their conversation wasn't over — at least, it had changed topics. Anya could feel Piper about to ask the question she had been dreading since Fort Sumter.

"Anya, about what happened with my mom—"

"Please, no. . ." Anya didn't care she interrupted Piper. Anya's eyes turned to the same dark blue as when she was with Percy. She focused on the belongings of her friends, but she knew that Piper wanted to know more information. "I just can't right now. It's my thing to tell."

"Anya, please just tell me. You can trust me," Piper kneeled down to Anya's level on the ground. "Who is Anastasia?"

"Not important right now."

Piper scoffed. Anya read every single thought in her mind. She thought she was being ridiculous, keeping a thing from her when they had been through so much. But Anya knew, what they had been through was nothing in compared to what Anya had gone through all those years ago. Piper's life of luxury, of growing up with almost everything she wanted, is still with her. Anya's life was gone, literally got turned into flames.

"Please just drop it right now," Anya begged, shaking her head. She turned the crystal from Hazel's room in her hand. It was suddendly harder to focus on finding them.

"You seriously can't expect me to drop it—"

"Gods, please!" Anya stood up, facing Piper. "You know, I knew you were thinking about betraying us when we first met, Piper. But I didn't tell anyone because that's not who I am. I trusted you, trusted you to do the right thing, knew you had inner conflicts. Well I do too! And it's my story and life to tell and my explanation of who Anastasia is. Just like your dad being taken was your thing to tell. So when I say not now, just like you did months ago, I mean it with the exact same emotions."

Anya grabbed the things she had brought into Piper's room, leaving to have time alone.
