NEXT DAY...
Funky Kong woke up to the sound of the ocean waves crashing against the shore, feeling a bit more rested than the previous night. He climbed out of his hammock and stretched his big, fur filled arms, looking out at the beautiful view of DK Island. The sun was rising, painting the sky with a warm, orange glow. He knew he had a lot of work to do, since it got cut out for him yesterday for a rematch, which barely went any better than the first one.
He made his way downstairs without fixing himself up, the smell of Diddy's burnt toast filling the house.
Funky: (Mumbles to himself) damn...ugh
He fixed his messy hair as it was covering his eyes, which had small bags under them from tiredness.
Dixie looked up at him from the couch, where she was scrolling through her phone.
Dixie: Hey, you're up early.
Funky: Yeah, I couldn't sleep. Got a lot on my mind.
Dixie: You know, about yesterday...
Funky: No, just about...the work I gotta do since a certain someone decided to uh...I don't know, force me out of it.
Dixie rolled her eyes playfully.
Dixie: You know who you're talking about, right?
Funky: (Grumbles) Daisy.
Dixie: Well, you got a second chance today, since you gotta practice for a remix y'all are doing.
Funky: oh yeah...that...I didn't practice...period...
Dixie: What? Funky, you have to be prepared, it's not just about showing off your cool mo-
Funky: It's not about that... It's just...I don't know what part I'm gonna have, and I forgot where my guitar is.
Dixie: Ugh, you and your guitar. You know what, I'll help you find it.
They both headed towards the garage, which was a mess from Funky's previous contraption attempts. Dixie began to sift through the pile of spare parts and tools while Funky looked around aimlessly.
Dixie: (Sighs) Funky, you really need to organize this place.
Funky: (Distracted) Uh-huh.
After a few minutes of searching, Dixie found Funky's large, brown and yellow banana-shaped guitar under a pile of old tires. She handed it to him with a smirk.
Dixie: Here it is, your trusty sidekick.
Funky: (Laughs) Thanks, Dix.
Funky strummed a few chords, the sound echoing through the garage. It was out of tune, but he didn't seem to mind. He was lost in thought, playing a tune that was a mix of nostalgia and hope. Dixie watched him for a moment, noticing the seriousness in his eyes.
Dixie: You know, you don't have to be so tough or cocky all the time, Funky. It's okay to show vulnerability.
Funky: (Pauses) I guess I've just been like that for so long, it's hard to change.
Dixie: I know, but maybe it's time to try. For Daisy especially.
Funky nodded, trying to tune his strings, covering his eyes making sure the strings didnt snap in his face.
