Jungkook's POV

I stared at Ava's response on my phone: "Yes, but I need some time. Family gathering this weekend." My mind wandered back to that night, the kiss. Why did it happen? Was I drunk? No, I was in control. Then why did I cross the line?

I recalled the rush of adrenaline, the spark in Ava's eyes. It wasn't just lust. Something else stirred within me. But I couldn't afford to dwell on it. My mission demanded focus.

Why did I go to her house that night? I could've sent men to eliminate the threat or warned her with a call. But I went myself. I needed to protect her, ensure she stayed safe. Or was it more than that?

No. I shook my head. I couldn't let emotions cloud my judgment. My goal was clear: use Ava to get to Julian. Revenge. That's all that mattered.

But Ava's determination, her fire... It drew me in. Dangerous. I couldn't afford attachments. Focus. I typed my response: "Understood. We'll discuss details soon." Time to put emotions aside and proceed with the plan.

I stared out the window, lost in thought. She needed time.
Time. Something I didn't have.

My mind flashed back to a night, years ago. Rain pouring down, my sister's hand in mine... The memory still stung.

My mind wandered to the past, to memories I'd long suppressed. Growing up on the streets of Seoul, fighting for scraps. My sister, Ji-hyun the only light in my darkness.

I recalled the night our lives changed forever. Rain-soaked streets, sirens blaring, and the sound of shattering glass. The image of my sister's terrified face still haunted me.

"Jungkook, run!" she'd screamed.

I'd failed to protect her.

The guilt and anger still simmered, fueling my quest for revenge.

Julian's face appeared in my mind, a constant reminder of what I'd lost.
