I finished my beer and tossed it in the bin just as Beth walked past. "Help me clear away the trash, please?" she asked, giving me those puppy dog eyes. I sighed, but nodded, giving her a thumbs up. I started emptying the bins, tying up the bags, and followed her outside.
As we walked, Beth touched my arm. "Have you talked to Sam yet?" she asked.
I shook my head, already anticipating where this was going. "Don't start," I warned.
Beth smirked. "She won't wait forever, you know," she teased, pushing open the door as we headed outside.
I blinked a few times, taking in the cool air, before heading to the trash cans with the bags. As I tossed them in, I heard Beth whisper, "Y/N."
I turned slowly to see what had caught her attention. A deer was approaching us cautiously. Beth stepped closer, reaching out like she wanted to pet it, but the deer suddenly darted off into the woods. I chuckled softly, shaking my head, and we headed back inside.
Inside the cabin, I found Hannah in the kitchen, already clearing up the mess from the party.
Beth checked on Josh and saw him passed out drunk on the floor. "Jeez, Josh. Once again, brother, you've outdone us all," she giggled.
With Hannah's help, they carefully lifted him to his feet and guided him to the couch. I stepped in to make sure he was comfortable, securing a pillow under his head so he could rest.
I glanced over at the other couch and saw Chris, also passed out drunk. His face was covered in marker doodles, probably courtesy of Emily or Jess. Beth grabbed more trash bags and headed outside again.
While Hannah, seemingly forgetting I was still in the room, wandered over to a computer. She picked up a note, barely glanced at it, and lazily tossed it aside before heading upstairs. I noticed her give Mike a sly smile as she passed.
That's when I saw Jess, Emily, Mike, Matt, and Ashley huddled together, clearly up to something. It worried me. I walked over and picked up the note Hannah had discarded—it was a love confession, supposedly from Mike, but I instantly recognized Jess's handwriting.
I spotted Sam sitting nearby and from the look on her face, I knew she had some idea of what was going on. "What's happening?" I asked her, locking eyes.
Sam looked away, clearly uncomfortable. "They're planning a prank," she admitted quietly.
I felt my blood boil. Without thinking, I ran upstairs, heart pounding, but I was too late. I burst into the room to see that the prank had already been sprung. Hannah stood there, humiliated, her face a mix of hurt and confusion.
"Hannah..." I muttered, but she shoved past me, her face flushed with embarrassment, and bolted from the room.
Matt was holding a camera, filming everything, and my anger snapped. I grabbed the camera from him and smashed it to the ground, crushing it underfoot. "That was uncalled for! You all deserve to burn in hell for this!" I spat at them before racing after Hannah.
The front door was wide open, and icy wind from the blizzard outside whipped through the house. I cursed under my breath, grabbing my jacket, beanie, and scarf as I rushed outside. The others were gathered, looking guilty and uneasy.
Beth appeared, her face filled with concern. "What's going on? Where's she going?" she asked, clearly worried.
I zipped up my jacket, fuming. "Why don't you ask them?" I snapped, motioning toward the others.
Beth's eyes widened in disbelief as she pieced it together. "You jerks!" she yelled, furious, before taking off after Hannah.
Mike tried to defend himself. "It wasn't meant to be anything serious."
