Liam Hawthorne's POV
"Perfect" the alpha responded before turning to the others "Now that my son's mate is sorted out, the rest of you may check the village for anything you wish." He continued as the lycans grinned with predatory intent before dispersing.
Sarah's startled yelp brings me out of my stupor, I see a lycan grabbing her arm, "Don't touch her!" I shout going to charge.
Rough hands clench around my arm ripping me back from aiding my distressed friend. "Stay." A cold yet smooth voice commands.
Trying to rip my arm out of my now mate's grasp I continue trying to help Sarah as the chief tries to reason with the alpha not to take her. She stomps on the lycan's foot catching him off guard. When he releases her she bolts for the barn before red fills my vision. The alpha's claws rip through her back spraying blood instantaneously behind her. "No!" a scream rips from my throat as she falls limp from shock.
My aunt and the chief rush to her side as she trembles, the alpha watches with a satisfied bloodthirsty smirk, "You should have taught your daughter better chief, did you think you could hide her with the village outcasts? Did you think their clothes could hide her scent?" His tone is malicious, and he begins to approach the three, each of them pale with fear watching the blood drip from his claws.
"Stop, please, don't hurt them!" My voice cries out desperately as I thrash; images of my parents laying in a pool of their blood, choking from the wounds gashed through their throats. My vision blurs and the air around me vanishes. "Don't take my family again." My plea comes out as a faint whimper, the memory drowning me.
The alpha pauses glancing back at my sudden show of weakness watching as my body trembles nearly crumbling in his son's grasp as panic consumes me. "My, what do we have here?"
"Liam," my aunt calls fearful for my being, seeing the memories drowning me in the darkness of my mind, "Liam you're not there." She tries to bring me back. Keiran glares at my fragile form keeping me off the ground. My dissociated gaze frozen as the memory drags me further into my mind.
"Liam," Sarah calls weakly, "I'm ok, I'm still alive." After a few attempts to coax me back to reality, my eyes focus slightly, and my vision frees of the memory enough to see her sitting up with her father's support.
My gaze shifts distantly to the alpha, "you said you'd spare the village... please don't hurt my aunt or Sarah" I beg weakly, trying to regain myself from my nightmare.
"So stubborn yet so weak. Were you just acting tough earlier to hide your frail mind or are you worthy of being my son's mate?" the alpha questions though he turns to leave not expecting a response. "Let's leave Keiran, the pack will follow when they are finished gathering their property. I'm bored of playing with these humans."
Keiran drags me in the direction of his father as I gaze back at my home, at my family, my world is crashing down and there is nothing I can do to save it. When we are out of sight, I shift my gaze to where we are going, my eyes widen seeing Lycan carrying various meats, some dragging villagers while others terrorize the young. "Wait until you meet the whole pack, this is only a small part of the Lycan," Keiran teases darkly, his canines showing in delight at my horrified expression.
He drags me past his father grabbing a rope and collar. Before I can protest, he chokes me with the leather before adjusting the collar to be just loose enough to breathe. He checks the space barely a finger gap before he ties my wrists and attaches the rope to my collar, making sure I can't fight nor run. The leather rubs my neck each time I breathe or move, and though it is logically loose enough to breathe, it feels as though I'm choking. He yanks the rope causing me to fall forward and wheeze at the sudden force. The collar briefly tightened on the sides of my throat pushing air out of my lungs.
"Don't break your mate within minutes of getting him, if he dies before the 2 years are up then you will lose your chance to become alpha." The alpha threatens barely sparing a glance our way.
Kieren huffs and tears prick the edge of my vision, I might not survive long enough to see my aunt again and if I do, he may break every last part of me. The surroundings get quieter as the pack finishes gathering their scraps. "Let's head back." The alpha commands starting towards the pack's territory.
I have to survive.
