NOW...

Nicka's P. O. V.

It was almost 3 p.m. when I clocked out of my work as a software engineer. Mike's school wasn't far from my workplace, so his aunt asked me to bring him home since my best friend and I lived only a couple of blocks away.

My time was limited because I had an appointment with the salon later that evening, so I parked my car at the nearest spot to the gate. Since I've been known as one of Mike's guardians, the security guards let me through.

"Mamshie!" I heard the little guy call me before I could see him.

He rushed towards me and hugged my waist. Mike is Miguel's son, older brother ni Synth. This kid loves to hang out with his aunt so much that his family ends up living in the neighboring city from my best friend.

That nickname he just called me? He got it from none other than Synth.

"What's up, Nakshie?" I ruffled his hair. He was only as tall as my abdomen, Mike was only seven, anyway.

"One mistake lang po ako sa quiz kanina." He smiled proudly at me showing two missing teeth.

"Wow, very good ah. Dahil diyan, I'll treat you a merienda. What would you like to have?" I love treating this kid whenever he achieves something whether is it minimal or something bigger. I want him to experience something I never did when I was still his age.

"Baka mapagsabihan na naman tayo niyan ni Tita, Mamshie. Sasabihin na naman ni Daddy sa kaniya ini-i-spoil ako masyado." Mike pouted adorably.

"Hindi iyan, ako bahala." I sent him a reassuring thumbs up which made him beam with joy.

"Yey! Sige, mamshie ha? Sabi mo iyan, gusto ko jabi." His mood changed from confirmative to a pleading tone immediately. This kid would be a complete charmer when his time comes.

Before leaving, he waved goodbye to his friends and asked if I could accompany him outside their comfort room. He told me there were some paranormal activities witnessed by some of the students there, which frightened him. While I, being a good aunt, gave in. As I waited for him to finish his business, I glanced at the rooms around the corner.

There was something with elementary schools' vibe that gave me a sense of comfort albeit not being fond of kids that much. It was the feeling of being a child again after years of growing up as an adult. As I turned to look at a corner, I thought I saw someone enter one of the rooms.

The figure looked eerily familiar with a posture that I will never forget.

As my feet padded in the same direction, my eyes scanned an empty classroom with anxiousness. The cold wind gushed from the open window blowing the curtains ajar. It made me shiver.

"Tita Nix?" Mike's small voice startled me. "Ano'ng ginagawa mo po riyan?"

I shook my head in an attempt to clear up my mind. A distant memory was trying to resurface again.

Stop it, Nix.

"Wala, I just thought I saw someone dito." I pointed to the empty classroom.

"Hala ka, Mamshie! Umalis na tayo, diyan yung may white lady na nakita si Anthony noong isang linggo." His eyes widen and quickly pulled me out of their school gate.
