We are back at the hotel as its our last day,
As I walk down the hallway, my mind is spinning with everything that's gone unsaid between me, James, and Abby. When I reach my room, I stop, unsure if I want to go inside. I just need a minute. Then, I hear voices—James and Abby. They're talking, nothing too serious, but it still stings. I stand there, frozen for a moment, when the door to another room opens. Ayla steps out. She's the new girl who joined us a couple of days ago. I've noticed the way she watches James, and it's clear she's interested in him.
She gives me a polite smile. "Hey, Sophie. You okay?" I nod, though I don't feel okay at all. "Yeah, just thinking."
Ayla leans against the doorframe, her eyes studying me for a second. "I was talking to James earlier," she says, trying to sound casual. "He's really nice."
I force a small smile. "Yeah, he is."
There's a pause before Ayla speaks again, her tone a bit softer this time. "He and Abby seem pretty close, huh? They spend a lot of time together."
Her words hit me, but I keep my face calm. "I guess. I'm not really sure."
Ayla nods slowly, like she's thinking. It's obvious she likes James, and it makes me feel weird. It's like everything is shifting, and I don't know where I stand anymore.
"I'm gonna head to bed," I say, feeling the weight of the situation pressing down on me. "See you tomorrow?"
"Sure," Ayla says, smiling again, but there's something about it that doesn't feel real. As I walk to my room, I wonder if Ayla is right. Maybe James and Abby are closer than I thought, and maybe I'm not the only one who's noticed. But no matter what, I can't shake the feeling that things are about to get even more complicated.
