(Elysia's POV)

I couldn't shake the feeling of unease after my conversation with Dr. Voss. Her ambition was palpable, and I feared for Skylar's safety.

As I made my way to the lab, I knew I had to walk a fine line. Dr. Voss trusted me, but only to a point. My role was to assist, not question.

My tasks for the day included analyzing Skylar's latest test results and calibrating the lab's equipment. Dr. Voss's instructions were precise, as always.

"Elysia, I need you to refine the resonance chamber's frequency," Dr. Voss said, her eyes scanning the data on my tablet.

I nodded, inputting the adjustments. "This will amplify Skylar's powers, but are you certain it's safe?"

Dr. Voss's expression turned cold. "Safety is relative, Elysia. We're pushing boundaries."

I bit back my concerns, focusing on the task. My expertise in quantum physics made me invaluable to Dr. Voss's research.

As I worked, I subtly modified the calibration, introducing a minor fluctuation. It might be enough to disrupt Dr. Voss's plans, or at least give Skylar a fighting chance.

My gaze met Dr. Voss's, and for an instant, I thought she sensed my deception. But her expression remained unreadable.

"Excellent work, Elysia," she said, her voice dripping with sincerity. "You're crucial to this project's success."

I forced a smile, hiding my true intentions.

Crucial, or complicit?
