" That your story? " Ella inquired, pointing to a group of boys, who were standing in front of a statue of Horace Greeley. Kayleigh nodded, walking closer. " Soak 'em! " the boys shouted, in an uproar, and it's then that Ella sees Kayleigh cringe. " I have a very bad feeling about this. " the older girl mumbled to her sister, who nodded. But, if Kayleigh already had a bad feeling, why didn't she help?

Ella asked her that much. " Ell, as a reporter, it's my job to write the story. Changing it is completely up to them. " Kayleigh responded, sighing. Maybe there was something they could do, after all. But by the time they reached the gates, it was too late. Everyone was running towards the gate, and Kayleigh and Ella pushed themselves back.

" What are ya? Crazy? " a boy was asking Kayleigh, hastily taking both her and Ella's hands as the three ran as fast as they could. " We were trying to save your ass, Mr. Kelly! " Kayleigh replied, unwilling to be talked to in such a way. Mr. Kelly, as Kayleigh called him, didn't lose his attitude. " We didn't need saving! " he replied, coming to a stop outside of the Newsboys' Lodging House. All of the newsies, along with Kayleigh and Ella, went through the door. " Where's Crutchy? " a boy Ella recognizes as David asks, looking around in confusion.

" Yeah. I didn't see Race, either. " a tall boy adds, sitting on a bed. The newsies were quiet, running their fingers through their hair and doing other things that gave way to the theory that they were worried. " I'm sure they're fine, " Ella said, trying to be helpful. Kayleigh nodded, although she didn't look convinced, and sat beside of a girl and that ' Kelly ' boy on one of the bottom bunks. " What's Ya name? " another boy wearing an eyepatch asks her.

" Ella Denton, " she replied, saying her name at the same time that David did. She blushed and looked up at David, who was grinning like a fool. Some newsies made comments, but that was the end of that. The introductions started with the boys, and Ella couldn't help but giggle at some of the nicknames that the newsies had received. They didn't seem to mind, though, as they laughed along with her.

It was then that a boy who Ella could only assume was Race burst through the door. " Crutchy got caught, " he breathed, and Ella could have heard a pen drop. The newsies were still and quiet, before Jack finally got up and left. " He won't have to be strong for you, " said Anna to Kayleigh, who nodded. " I'll go check on him. " Kayleigh was out on the fire escape within seconds.
