Author's POV
She heard a sound and turned, pointing the gun at the person and found her mother looking at her shocked. She pulled back her gun in a hurry and tucked it in her pocket. Her gaze softened looking at her mother.
"Maa ko hi maar de tu beta." Sanjana said dramatically putting her hand on her heart.
(Kill your mother, dear.)"Aree aisa kyu keh rahi ho aap, mujhe laga koi chor hoga. Aapne bataya bhi nahi aane se pehle." Kritika hugged her mother and soon her father came from the room behind them.
(Why are you saying that I thought there were thieves. You didn't even tell me before coming here.)"Matlab tu khush nahi hai ki hum aa gaye?" Sanjana said slapping her arm, making kritika wince as it was the same arm which was hurt.
(That means you are not happy that we came here?)Rajeev looked at her hand and asked her to open her leather jacket. She refused to do it but one glare from him was enough. As soon as she removed the jacket, a gasp left Sanjana's lips and her eyes widened. Kritika's hand was covered with bandages while it had a big red patch showing off blood mixed with ointment. She closed her eyes looking at her parents'reaction.
"Vo aaj uhmm.... Ek site pe gaye thee toh vaha thodi lag gayi." Kritika's whisper was almost inaudible and hearing her, Sanjana glared at her.
(That uhmm.. today we went to a site, so I got a little hurt.)"Tu baith beta paani pee. " Her father dragged her towards the dinning table carefully, not to hurt her. Kritika bowed her head and bit her lips trying to suppress a smile as her father passed her a glass of water.
(Dear, you sit here and drink water.)"Isko ser par Chadha rakha hai aapne. Itni jyada chot lag gayi aur keh rahi hai thodi lagi hai." Sanjana said glaring at the duo. She also went behind them and towards the kitchen. She took out apples and sat beside Kritika, she started slicing them.
(You have spoiled her so much. She got hurt a lot and is still saying she got hurt a little only.)"Aap gussa kyu hoti hai, Sanju. Uska kaam hai yeh sab aur aap hi toh kehti thi na meri beti police wali banegi." Rajeev spoke to which Sanjana just hummed.
(Why are you getting angry, Sanju. That's her work and you only wanted your daughter to be a police officer.)"Aap log kab aaye? Mujhe bataya kyu nahi? " Kritika questioned them.
(When did you both come? Why didn't you tell me?)"Dopahar me aaye thee aur tujhe bata dete toh humara surprise nahi bigad jata!" Sanjana said while forwarding a slice of apple in front of Kritika's lips.
(We came here in the afternoon and if we would have told you then our surprise would have spoiled.)"Achha! Tabhi jaldi se phone rakh diya aapne subah. Par keys? Vo kaha se mili?" She squinted her eyes with a questioning look.
(Okay! That's why you disconnected the call in the morning. But keys? How did you find them?)"Vo toh hume pata hai, tu chhoti thi tab se extra keys pot ke neeche rakhti hai." Her father said caressing her head.
(That we know, since you were a child, you used to keep extra keys under the pot.)"Itne dino se ghar nahi aayi tu, phone par bhi kam baat karti hai. Tujhe pata hai kitni fikra hoti hai hume teri." Her father said getting emotional and kritika hugged him.
(You haven't come home for so many days, you also don't pick many calls. You know, how concerned we are about you.)"Hume tension free karde tu. Settle hoja, hume fir itni fikra nahi hogi teri." Sanjana spoke, standing up.
(Relieve us of our worries. Once you're settled, we won't worry about you so much.)"Settle hi toh hu mai?" Kritika said or more like questioned not understanding the meaning of the statement.
(I'm settled?)"Shaadi karle fir nahi hogi hume itni tension. Fir Tera pati sambhalega tujhe." She answered to which kritika whined while hugging her father.
(Get married, and we'll stop worrying so much. Then your husband will take care of you.)
