It's been a week since we had Mai's welcoming party that day.
I don't know what bad luck touched me this week. First, someone accidentally drove into my car and damaged my taillights. The trunk of the car was even dented and I had to send the car to a car center for repair.
Besides that, the atmosphere between me and King is still very nervous and depressed, I haven't said a word to him since the day I had the fight with him on the emergency stairs. I pretended to be indifferent, trying not to see his face, trying to avoid any chance to be alone with him.
Sometimes I could still feel Ai King's dark and angry stare from behind, but I don't care, I just stay focused on my work. I have nothing to say to him.
"Hey! Did the person who sold me the lunch box open a pepper garden?! Why is it so spicy! Anyone who eats it will probably hurt his stomach! And the whole box is so salty! Isn't he ashamed to be selling it?!" People around me complained.
Jade was with me at the office today for lunch, and she took chili from the box of minced pork and basil leaves with a wrinkled face.
Now is the break time for lunch. I decided to buy a boxed lunch in the morning and came back to eat it. It had been days since I went to eat at a restaurant near the company.
Jade sometimes accompanied me to dinner at the office, and sometimes he went out to eat with Ai 'King and Mai.
Jade tried to take me out to dinner after work, but I refused all of it because I didn't want to get in the way of my friend's plans. The intent of the pursuit was very clear, but Jade couldn't detect it.
Since this week, I have seen a wry smile on Jade's face more than once. Watching his two best friends fight in cold war, it must be really hard to be him! Even so, he didn't force my mouth open to try to ask what was going on.
In the past, whenever I ran into trouble, Jade would always ask me what was going on with a worried expression on her face. After asking and asking again, when I felt better, he would sit down and listen to my complaints quietly. This is the luckiest thing I've ever come across in my life, which is to have Jade as a friend.
"Is it spicy? Why don't you swap with my lunch box?" I asked him aloud when I saw him scooping the chili in it. Jade glanced at my lighter pork fried rice box and just shook his head.
"No, you can eat it."
After he finished speaking, he continued to eat the chili in front of him even though he had to drink a sip of ice water for every bite of rice he ate, and kept complaining.
Soon the box of fried rice with minced pork and basil leaves was gone.
Bottom line, I've known Jade for so long, and I rarely hear her complain about her bad food, no matter what. He ate the entire lunch box without a single grain of rice left. I'm not sure if my friend is really hungry or just doesn't want to waste money.
"I'm going to the bathroom and I'll be back." After I said to Jade who was eating the last spoonful of rice, I got up and threw my lunch box in the trash and walked to the bathroom.
Before I could enter, I saw a man standing inside and washing his hands from the door where I was standing. I was a little surprised, and was about to turn around and stand aside to let someone get out of the bathroom before I enter, however, the other person just raised his head to look at me.
"Come in if you want, I'm ready to go out."
Listening to the other party's flat tone that seems cold, the burning anger in the sharp eyes that have been staring at me, tells me that he is not as calm as his cold voice.
