For me there are basically 3 factors that affect my career:
First, whether the workload is balanced in terms of time and salary; Second, work environment and getting along with co-workers; Third, boss.
Although my interpersonal relationships may not be very good in the three years since I joined the company, except for the occasional disagreement with my colleagues about work, there were no major problem, until the IT department brought in for a new manager.
"Morning, N'Uea, you're very early today!" Mr. Grit, my department manager!
I suddenly heard his deep voice from behind as I was queuing for coffee at the coffee shop downstairs.
"Hello, Mr. Grit." I greeted him politely, but the man who was taller than me just shook his head.
"You call me Mister again, I told you to call me P'Grit." He looked at me with sly eyes, and said softly. I had to reluctantly follow his wishes.
P'Grit showed a satisfied expression seeing me so obedient. I felt a little embarrassed, and turned my eyes to the queue in front of me to buy my coffee, silently pray for my turn to come soon... I really don't want to communicate with him...
Mr. Grit: "N'Uea drinks what?"
Me: "Huh?"
Mr. Grit: "Coffee, which one do you want to drink? I also happened to buy coffee. I'll buy it. Just sit back and wait, I'll pay for it."
Me: "It's okay, Mister... P'Grit, I can do it myself and it's embarrassing."
"Why should you be embarrassed, or... do you hate me?"
He took a step forward, and my temple nerves twitched, and my head started to spin. He came again and said these words again...
Mr Grit: "What would you like to drink?"
Me:"...Iced Americano."
"Okay, sit at the table over there and wait for me."
He grabbed my arm and pulled me out of line without saying a word.
After thanking him in a low voice, I turned around and walked towards an empty table in the shop. After sitting down, I couldn't help but sigh....
It's been a month since the new manager came to the IT department, and colleagues have been quietly commenting about Mr. Grit in the company.
Even though he is the boss' nephew and has supporters behind him, his work ability is indeed quite pleasing to the eye. He does not hand over all the work to his subordinates because he is a 'boss relative'. After a while many colleagues were willing to accept him.
For me... I don't really have a problem with his ability to work, I just feel his attitude towards me is a bit problematic...
When he is in front of other colleagues, he will show that he is the boss and I'm an ordinary subordinate, so others will not suspect. But when I'm alone with him, his demeanor changes drastically, and he will stare at me.
His eyes and tone were so clear that even a kindergartner can tell! Much like this unwarranted coffee invitation. It wasn't the first time this has happened. He was handsome and polite, but my instincts warned me not to get too close to him.
Mr. Grit: "Your coffee."
Me:"...Thank you." I reach out to take it. When he handed me the coffee, his fingertips brushed the back of my hand like it was nothing.
My hairs on my neck stood up. I was so embarrassed that I lowered my eyes and looked at the ground. And the corners of his mouth curved slightly.
Me: "I'll go back to the company first."
