My head shoots up from the deep slumber I was just in. I'm not able to get that far though because of the heavy arm that's keeping me anchored down onto the plush bed I'm half on. I look down to see that my upper body was being pressed against a bare, chiseled abdomen and chest. I notice I'm no longer in the dress I was wearing but instead in a silk night shirt that's too many sizes too big for me. I feel my face heat up when I realize I'm only wearing my underwear underneath. My lower body is hidden under the luscious duvet. My legs are tangled with long, silk pant covered legs.

Elijah's grip around my waist loosens and he lets out a groan. His once peaceful looking handsome face stirs a bit. He brings his large hand behind my head and gently pushes it back down into his first chest. "Go back to sleep," he mumbles sleepily. The sound of his husky morning voice makes my heart swoon.

"W-where am I?" I stutter softly as my fingers gently trace the outline of his six pack.

"You're at my penthouse. Technically, I own and reside in the whole building. Either way, you're safe now," he hums. His long fingers gently run through my hair, causing shivers to run down my spine. The feeling of his chest softly vibrating against my cheek as he speaks nearly has me purring in delight. Ugh, this man basically has me wrapped around his finger.

I pull away again and this time he lets me break free enough to sit up. My eyes sweep over his form. Elijah is lying shirtless with the sheets and duvet just barely coming up to his waist. He has one arm resting behind his head while the other is lazily resting at the small of my back. The sunlight pours into the room, bathing his impressive form in a warm glow. He looks unearthly. His blue eyes are half lidded as they take in my appearance, which I'm sure looks like a hot mess. His facial features look relaxed and even a bit dazed from just waking up. His full lips are curled up in a slight smirk, making him look deliciously mischievous and just a little bit cocky.

This man asked me to be his girlfriend? And I basically said no? I must be insane. And to think he still went out of his way to save me. The thought of everything that happened not long ago makes tears start to well up in my eyes. The smile on Elijah's lips immediately drops into a scowl. He sits up quickly now alert and fully awake.

"What's wrong? Are you hurt?" He asks frantically, his eyes quickly checking me over. I shake my head as soft sobs rake through my body.

"I-I thought I wasn't going to see you ever again. I-I was afraid of what Cohen was planning on doing to you," I stutter between sobs.

Elijah softly shushes me. He pulls me into his chest. He wraps one arm around my waist while he runs his other warm hand up and down my back comfortingly. "I'm right here," he coos, "We're together now. We're both safe and I'm never letting anything happen to you again."

We continue to embrace each other for what feels like forever. I just want to stay in his warmth. "Thanks for saving me," I whimper as my breathing starts to even out.

Elijah lets out a deep chuckle. The chuckle soon turns into throaty laugh. It's almost like he thinks what I said was a joke. Now I feel a little embarrassed.

"What's so funny?" I snap as I feel my face heat up all over again.

"You're so funny, love," he chuckles, his laughs starting to die down. "I appreciate your gratitude. But there's no need to thank me. Whether you want me to or not, I will always save you. I lo-" Elijah abruptly pauses before clearing his throat. "I would do anything for you, my queen. You have no idea how much you mean to me."

I pull out of his grasp just enough so I can look up at him. I know that's not all he wants to say. And for some reason, a small part of me is a little disappointed he didn't say it. But I guess I'm not surprised. I couldn't even agree on our relationship status with him.
