The call sends us in a tizzy. Owen can't reach his shifters guarding Evan's aunts, Alicia, and Emily. He orders us to stay inside my parents' house until he sends someone to fetch us.

As nerve-wracking as it is, none of us can speak. Our thoughts circle around the possibilities of what Ryan might do if he gets his hands on Alicia and Emily.

He'll use them as hostages, I think bitterly to myself as I wring my hands together in my lap. He'll use them to force us into submission so that they don't get hurt. Dirty coward!

Noon comes and goes, but none of us are hungry for lunch. Too wound up to eat, I instead gnaw on my nails, same as Tamara. Leah and Marcus pace around the room, taking turns looking out the windows at the front and back of the house, while Brianna and Evan bicker softly in the corner.

Fed up, Evan leaves Brianna and flops down beside me on the couch, grumbling under his breath the entire time.

"How much longer?" I ask, even though I know he doesn't know the answer to that.

He shrugs, but says nothing.

With a huff, I get up to distract myself, having chewed my nails down to the nubs. I creep to the front window and peek out. The street hasn't changed a bit. Just the usual traffic one would expect at this time of the day.

The tension and anxiety is maddening. I just want Owen's men to get us out of here now.

A minute later, two silver cars pull up in front of the house and four men get out. I don't recognize any of them.

"Guys!" I call out. "There's people coming."

"People, or shifters?" Leah asks, jumping to my side.

Everyone else quickly huddles around me and peer out the window as well.

"Oh, thank god," Leah says.

I take that to mean that they are Silver Star shifters sent by Owen.

The tension in the room is immediately lifted as we all heave a sigh of relief. We follow behind Leah as she walks to the front door.

"Make sure you have everything you need. We won't be making a trip back," she says, even though everyone is wearing all the belongings they brought with them. Her message is probably meant more so for me than the others.

I snatch a backpack from the floor that I had previously packed with a couple articles of clothing and some snacks.

"Oh, let me call my mom to let her know we're leaving," I tell Leah.

She nods. "I'll call Owen after you so he knows the guys made it and that we're on our way."

"They probably have cell phones," Marcus says from the doorway as Brianna and Tamara step out.

"True," Leah replies with a note of thoughtfulness in her voice, as I dial Mama's cell phone number. "Let me just do it now while I'm thinking about it."

Marcus nods and waits by the door with Evan.

Mama doesn't answer, so I leave a quick message on her voicemail, letting her know that we were leaving and that I would call her again once I safely arrived at our destination.

No point in being vague and making her worry more.

I hang up and hand the phone to Leah.

While she places her call, I step toward Evan and let his hands run up and down my arms.

"Do you think they're alright?" I ask, thinking about Alicia, Emily, Aunt Vicky and Nicky.

Worry creases his brows. He doesn't need to ask whom I'm referring to; he knows.
