Eddie's pov:
It's December 23rd, 1885. It's almost Christmas. I was sat by the fire warming up with Connor, chatting about stuff. "Boys, I have a job for yous both." Alistair said, coming up to us. "Hm? Yeah? What is it?" I asked. "It's not action packed mind, but we need more members. Yous two and I are going to be heading into the city of New Elmer and look for new recruits, and as it's so cold, there might be folk that want to get out of the cold, yeah?" He said."I think that's a decent idea." Connor said. I agreed with him.
We set off to the city of New Elmer. We went into the clothes shop first because Connor wanted a wool shirt for the cold. I had money from some jobs I've done, so I got a nice waist coat. I didn't mind the cold much, I had a coat anyways so. We both paid and went out with them on.
"Yous both look smart then, Good influence on any new members." Alistair said. "Right, so where are we looking for new members then?" I asked.
"Well, it's simple, really. We go through the alley ways, and look for young lads or lassies that need a wee bit of, well.. help. Like yous two. Right?" Alistair said. "Yeah, okay, that's fine." Connor said.We walked through a few alleys, mostly filled with dead rats, cats, and feral children. None of which wanted to join. There was a lit alley that looked to have some makeshift tent.
Alistair cleared his throat. "Anyone in there? Hello?-" he spoke before being interrupted by two identical boys jumping out with rusted shotguns that would probably never work yelling at us "get out of here before we blow your heads off" we sort of stepped back a bit before noticing how badly rusted they were. "Jesus boys! We mean no harm!" Alistair said. "What's your business with us, eh?" One of them said clearly cautious with us. "Yeah, why don't you three leave us alone?" The other said. They both had a pretty strong English accent, I thought anyway. "Look, how about we just calm down? We're just trying to talk." Connor said. I nodded as he said. "Put the guns down, boys. we aint here to hurt you." I said, trying to convince them. They did so reluctantly. "What d'you want then?" One said. "Good. Now we've calmed down then.. my names Alistair. These two here are my friends Eddie and Connor. What are your names then boys?" Alistair said calmly. "Uh. Well.." They were hesitant. Clearly, they didn't know who to trust. Alistair sighed before speaking, "Look, know what it's fine. I'll just get to the point." He said before continuing. "We're looking for new recruits for my.. group, you could say. You'll be part of a community of others who lost their way and are entitled to a decent camp and food. Plus, we have plenty of firewood for winter, so it shouldn't be too cold around. What do you say, boys? It's better than being alone, right?" He said, trying to persuade them. "Well.. uh.." They discuss with each other for a moment before coming to an agreement. "Okay. We'll join your gang. It's not like we really have much place to go anyway." One of the boys say. "Excellent. The rest will welcome yous both with open arms." he said. Me and tobin never really did anything, to be honest.
On the long ride back to camp, we chatted with them. "So then, you gonna tell us your names or what?" I asked. I didn't wanna push them, but if they're gonna be in the gang, we have to call then something. "Well, my name is Kieran, and my brothers name is Garret." He said from the back of the wagon. "Well, that's a start then." Connor said.
Connors pov:
As we got just outside of camp, I saw something. A lost dog. It was pretty small, too. "Hey, can we stop a moment? I see something." I said. "Why, what is it?" Eddie said, stopping the wagon. I didn't reply, I just got out and scooped the dog up. He was small and tried fighting me, but he wasn't very strong with the cold. I got onto the back of the wagon with the dog. "What on earth is that??" Alistair asked, confused and sort of caught off guard. "It's a dog, he pretty young. We can't just leave the poor guy out here." I said, wrapping my wool shirt around him, trying to keep him warm from the bitter cold. He was shivering. "Connor are you serious?? We can't just bring a dog into camp." He said. "Well, we can randomly bring people, so why not him, huh?" I said sort of standing up up for myself. "Look.. I can't just let him die out here." I said. He fell asleep in my arms. Clearly, he felt comfortable. "I mean, it wouldn't be so bad having a camp dog, you know?" Eddie said. Alistair sighed. "You know what.. fine. But you have to take care of him." He said, giving in. "Right, I will." I said, looking down at the dog. I was thinking of what to name him.
We got to camp, and I sat the dog by the fire. I pet him. He had a nice brown white and dark brown coat. I fed him meat trimmings I know nobody else would eat, but I know he'd like. He was hungry. I think him and I already took a liking to each other.
"So, what are you gonna name him?" Eddie said, coming back from setting the 2 boys tent up. "Hm, I was thinking Rusty. Kinda like his fur, you know?" I said. "Hm, yeah. Good name." Eddie said. I decided to draw rusty laying next to the fire before it got late. Eventually, it got late, so we went to bed. I let copper sleep in my tent, too, as there was enough room for both of us and to get him out of the cold. I always liked animals.
