Some creative writing based on crime fiction, a short story

He lay still, slowly peeking out from the bush he lay hidden in. The trees overhead casting long shadows from the pale moonlight in the sparkling night sky. Some metres away was a nervous, blonde woman walking up to the police station. After some minutes she returned, both frustrated and scared. A twisted cruel smile slowly spread across his face as he slowly retracted out of the bush so as to not cause any sudden movements that could alert anyone around. Though there weren't many people around anyways, not in this town, large as it was.
Night time was so peaceful she thought, shoving her frozen hands in her pockets. The cold, breezy, fresh air and only nocturnal animals could be heard. No one was around, they were all sleeping soundly in their beds. Having sweet dreams she thought sourly. She usually would escape from her bedroom window to avoid her adoptive parents constant arguing. She was saddened at the thought. Her biological parents had been murdered one day, and the criminal hadn't been found or caught. It was the reason why she loved solving mysteries, in hopes she could solve her parents. Suddenly a bright headlight appeared and a vehicle stopped beside the footpath. A blonde woman hurriedly stepped out and asked, "Are you by any chance Aurelia Crow?". "Why?", I replied cautiously. "I've heard about you and how you solve mysteries and stuff, so I was wondering if you could help with mine?". Intrigued, she let her continue. "I'm Laura Smith and I'm afraid I might have a stalker, but I have no idea what they want."
The next day, as punctual as always, she arrived on time at Laura's house to see if they could find any sort of evidence that someone else other than her and her cute little dachshund. She lived close to the forest and loved to explore the animals and the tracks they made, so she could easily spot any unusual markings. Her grey eyes roamed around the backyard near the bushes and fence. Afterwards she checked the CCTV and went over to the neighbours and asked if they had seen anyone suspicious walk by and if she could check their CCTV as well. There was also this one very rude neighbour, Luke Peters, who had hated Laura's father so she immediately put him in the 'very sus' list. Laura's father also spoke to her about friends and enemies and stresses he had so she made a list of that too. On the top of the list was Rancor Lex, a friend turned enemy. The evidence gathered was very little, but enough to get started and to get the police to take the case. She had to dig deeper into Rancor Lex though, on how and why he became Laura's father's enemy.
A week or so later she was pacing around frustrated. She hadn't gotten anywhere. Out of habit she had tied her black hair up into a bun and chewed the end of her pencil trying to see the bigger picture and figure out the motive. As usual she had pockets and in one was a notebook which she had taken out and scribbled on, brainstorming every possible reason she could think of. Recently Laura had been getting mysterious and ominous notes left inside her house. She began to lock her windows after that. The police also began to become more serious on the matter. Though after the notes she's no longer sure if the stalker was obsessed in the usual yandere obsession kind of way. After rearranging her crime board and notes she goes out into the night to calm her pent up nerves and escape her poor excuse of parents, as well as studying. The police had set up a plan to use Laura as bait for the stalker to come out, but it wouldn't work if what they wanted was revenge. Something she knew all too well about.
