Introduction

The first electric vehicle was made around 1890 meaning they've been around for over 100 years. Electric vehicles were considered after growing concerns of the climate and emissions the gasoline powered vehicles were producing. EV's are environmentally friendly and contribute to stopping climate change. They're a better choice than petroleum vehicles and there are types of EV's people can choose from. Which is why it's better for the environment and the Earth, and why it will help reduce the global issue of climate change.

Environmentally Friendly

Electric vehicles run on electricity and depending, a bit of petrol. And although non renewable resources are used to make electricity, there are renewable choices as well. Compared to petrol which is a definite non renewable resource that when burned, releases harmful chemicals into the water and air polluting the environment. Electricity can be powered by solar, wind and hydropower which are all renewable and don't affect the environment as much as digging into the Earth and stripping away millenia of progress, as it takes millions of years for crude oil to form, and then we're just taking it away without a sustainable and easy way to replace it. And to get crude oil people need to clear the land and destroy the surrounding wildlife and habitats of animals, and factor in all the nasty pollutants emitted from all the machinery run on petroleum. There are also crude oil operations happening in the ocean, which then damages the nearby marine life and disrupt them as well as polluting the oceans even more. All it is, is a non renewable cycle.

Although apparently algae and other crops such as corn starch and soybeans can be turned into biofuel and replace the current petroleum. It does have land and water requirements. Depending on the process on how it's produced, it can even emit more greenhouse gasses, a big drawback and the opposite of what the goal is.

Charging Stations

Although when driving electric cars they don't emit emissions, charging stations on the other hand, do. Charging stations need electricity to charge EVs and most electricity is powered by coal power plants which definitely are non-renewable and produce greenhouse gasses. However, as mentioned before, charging stations don't need to rely on coal power plants. There are other renewable energy sources available such as solar wind, and hydroelectricity.

Types of EV's

There are four types of electric vehicles. Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) run only on battery power and can be charged using the standard power outlet. Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) run on a combination of electricity and petrol which needs to be filled with petrol not charged in an outlet, but it does still run on battery power too. Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) are run by petrol and battery, but unlike HEVs, they can be recharged at an outlet making them excellent in driving great distances. And then there's hydrogen or Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) which need energy converted from an electrochemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen. Also BEVs, HEVs and PHEVs have a regenerative braking system where the kinetic energy created from braking gets converted to electrical energy that can help power the car. Either way, electric vehicles are definitely better for the environment compared to petrol cars, even hybrid types as they can travel farther than petrol cars. Meaning EVs need to charge less as many times than petrol cars polluting the environment and atmosphere.

Conclusion

Electric cars are better than petrol cars and better for the Earth as they have low greenhouse gas emissions, last longer on the road and use renewable resources for its energy. They help to reduce the harm and pollution caused to the atmosphere, environment, habitats, wildlife and marine life. Overall improving our homes better than any petroleum car.
