A voice echoed around the forest, "Open your eyes,"
The forest was sparsely populated with trees, and the sun had yet to rise, the soft sound of dirt and leaves crumpling under their feet. The wind picked up again after a brief lull.
"Where are we going?" Y/n asked, trailing behind Mr Diggory. They had been walking for quite some time without any clue about their destination. Y/n glanced over her shoulder, but Cedric had disappeared, no longer following behind her. Mr Diggory had been unusually insistent on taking Y/n and Cedric somewhere.
As they continued walking, Y/n spotted familiar faces approaching them. Realization washed over her, and she couldn't help but smile. Hurrying over, she hugged Hermione and Harry and warmly greeted the rest of the Weasleys walking towards them. It seemed like none of them had any idea where they were heading.
"Sorry, Amos. Some of us had a sleepy start," Mr Weasley apologized. "This is Amos Diggory, he works with me at the ministry."
Suddenly, Cedric leaped down from a tree, causing Y/n to startle. "Strapping young lad, must be Cedric, am I right?" Mr Weasley asked, shaking Cedric's hand and extending a friendly greeting to Y/n.
Y/n had visited the Weasley place quite a few times over the years, forming a close bond with the family.
They continued walking, and as the sun began to peek out over the horizon, they gathered around an old, manky boot. It quickly became evident to everyone that it was a portkey - a magical object used for transportation. Harry was incredibly confused, but the twins explained it to him. Y/n knelt on the grass next to Ginny, tightly holding onto the portkey. The world spun around them, clouds whirling by. Then, in an instant, everyone appeared clearly in front of her, holding on for dear life.
"Let go!"
Y/n hesitated at first, but eventually released her grip and felt herself falling through the sky. Memories of her falling on the Quidditch pitch flashed through her mind, and she landed with a small thud on the ground alongside everyone else. Cedric, Mr Diggory, and Mr Weasley seemed to be used to this kind of travel, landing softly on the ground. Cedric helped Harry up, who looked disoriented, while Y/n felt queasy and thought she might throw up.
"Thanks for the heads up, Ced," Y/n said as she stood up, wiping the dirt from her hands.
They continued heading up the hill, and Y/n put a hand to her rib, admitting that it was as good as new. Mr Weasley led the way, and as they approached the top of the small hill, they could hear music and cheering. He stood there, holding out his arms with a big smile on his face, and exclaimed, "Welcome to the Quidditch World Cup, kids!"
Y/n's eyes widened with excitement, and a radiant beam appeared on her face. This was the thing she loved most, and there couldn't have been a better surprise for her. The twins cheered, and Y/n and Ginny were almost jumping for joy together.
All the kids looked around in awe at everything happening around them—the bustling crowds, the colourful decorations, and the exciting activities. It was almost overwhelming to take in all at once, and Y/n found it hard to tear her eyes away. Eventually, they had to split off in different directions. Y/n, Cedric and Mr. Diggory proceeded straight ahead, while Mr. Weasley led everyone else toward a rather small-looking tent.
The three of them also headed toward an identical-looking tent, and Y/n furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, wondering how they could all possibly fit inside such a small tent. However, as she stepped inside, she was taken aback. The tent was not at all what it seemed from the outside—it had magically expanded and contained various rooms. It was huge! Y/n had never seen anything like it before, but then again, she hadn't been exposed to much magic in her life. "I love magic."
