Mari's POV

I ran through the village trying to find where they keep their prisoners. Lasercorn showed me around the village before our wedding. At last, I found the prison. I dropped my backpack and grabbed my knife and katana. I gently placed the knife in my belt buckle and slipped the katana holder on my back. After looking through tons of windows, I found Matt. He was tied up to a chair being watched from outside the door. "Pst. Matt". He tried to turn his head to see me. I was able to slip into the room through the bars. Man they need better windows. I slipped my knife out and cut the ropes. Matt got up, rubbed his wrists, turned around and saw me. He ran up to me and kissed me and I gladly kissed him back. "What are you doing here. You'll get yourself captured". "I couldn't let them just take you. And if I get captured, so be it. I would do anything to keep you safe". He kissed me again. "There's no way I can fit through the windows. We need a better way out". After thinking for a while, the door started to open. "Quick hide". I ran into a corner and hid in the shadows. Lasercorn's second in command, Mark I think his name was, walked into the room. I grabbed my katana from its holder. Then I had an idea. I put it back and slipped the strap off my shoulder. I grabbed one end of the safety holder and held it up over my head. "Well. I must be hearing things. I thought I heard another voice". I them bashed him in the head, making him pass out. "That was amazing". I grabbed Matt's hand and we both started running. Once we were out of the prison, we started walking to were my backpack was. But before we could even get around one house, we were ambushed. We took off running, avoiding fireballs flying above our heads. At one point, a chunk of my hair was burned off. Great now its uneven. We kept running until I was hit on my left side. I screamed in pain and fell to the ground. Matt stopped and turned around. "Go". "I'm not leaving you". "I've accomplished my mission. Now go". As the burn got worse, I could feel myself dying. With the four elements, some of them can harm or kill a person with the opposite element. So for Waters, fire can kill them, and they can kill fires. "I'll come back for you some day". I pushed him away and waited for the sweet release of death. Just before I passed out, I heard yelling around me.

Matt's POV

I ran away from where Mari was slowly dying. I knew she would never make it unless she somehow got water to the burn. I suddenly tripped over something. It was Mari's backpack. I picked it up and started running in the direction of the earth and air villages. My running was so fast that I made it just before sundown. Ian saw me coming and ran out to see me. "You're back! Wait. Where's Mari". I put my head down. "She...we were running out of the village and she was hit with a fireball. She couldn't get up and was insisting me to go. I'm sorry Ian. I tried". "Why would she do that". "She said to me before we escaped that she would do anything to keep me safe. Even if it meant being captured". "Are you going to go tell Marzia". I shook my head. "It's best if I stay here. Otherwise she would think something's wrong". He nodded and started walking. I started walking towards the tree that we met in yesterday afternoon. I dropped the backpack and climbed up as far as I could go. I dug through my pockets and found the thing I was looking for. It was a mini photo album. I flipped through the pages and found the picture I was looking for. It was me and her sitting by the lake near our former home back when we were 10. She didn't remember, but we were the best of friends. Then she got hit by something and lost all memories of me and her. I still remember though.

Flashback(3rd person)

Matt ran after Mari around the lake, trying not to fall in. When they caught up with each other, the both fell into the lake. "Matt. Why did you do that". "Because it would be fun". They both giggled. "Mari". "Yeah Matt". "I was wondering. Do you have any secret crushes". "Well if I told you then it wouldn't be a secret now would it. But yes, I do". "Can I ask who that person is". "You". I looked up at her. "Really". She nodded. "Then can I do this". He leaned over and kissed her. "Because I like you too".
