The next morning, Raghav woke up with the same soft glow of sunlight filtering through the curtains. This time, however, the faint smell of jasmine felt a little stronger, as though Kavya had only just left. He smiled at the thought, a warmth spreading through his chest. It had been a quiet evening with her last night, and yet, something was changing between them. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but the way she suggested a weekend getaway had surprised him—and in a good way.
As he pulled himself out of bed and prepared for the day, his mind wandered back to their conversation. Kavya had always been composed, her words measured, but there was something playful in her suggestion, something that felt like they were finally moving toward something deeper. He felt a flicker of hope—a hope that maybe, just maybe, things could be different between them.
After dressing in a simple grey t-shirt and jeans, Raghav headed downstairs, where the rest of the family was already gathered for breakfast. His mother, Sunita, was serving tea, while his father, Vinay, sat reading the newspaper, looking up occasionally to add to the conversation at the table.
Kavya was already seated, dressed in a soft pink salwar kameez, her hair tied in a loose braid. She looked up and smiled as Raghav entered, her gaze lingering on him for a moment longer than usual.
"Good morning," Raghav greeted, taking his seat next to her.
"Morning, beta," his mother replied with a warm smile. "You're just in time. We were about to start."
The table was filled with the usual spread—fresh parathas, yogurt, and fruit. Kavya passed him a plate without a word, and he nodded his thanks before beginning to eat.
"So, Raghav," his father began, setting his newspaper down. "I heard you're planning something special?"
Raghav paused mid-bite, glancing at his father in confusion. "What?"
His mother chimed in, a teasing smile playing on her lips. "Kavya told us about your little weekend trip."
Raghav blinked, his eyes widening as he turned to Kavya, who was now sipping her tea, her expression completely innocent.
"You... you told them?" he asked, feeling his face heat up.
Kavya set her cup down, looking at him with an amused smile. "Of course I did. It’s a family thing, Raghav. Besides, they seemed very excited."
Sunita laughed softly, her eyes twinkling. "We think it's a wonderful idea. A little break is exactly what you both need."
Raghav's face flushed with embarrassment, and he glanced down at his plate, feeling a little exposed. He hadn't expected this—their families were close, yes, but it was still new territory for him, having them tease him about something so personal.
"You two deserve it," Vinay added, his voice warm. "You've both been working hard, and it's important to spend time together."
Raghav glanced up at his father, feeling a strange mix of emotions. There was a part of him that still couldn’t fully believe this was happening—that he was married to Kavya, that they were planning a trip together, and now, with his family’s approval, it all felt... real.
"I... I guess," he muttered, feeling shy under their watchful eyes.
Kavya chuckled softly beside him, nudging him with her elbow. "Don’t worry, Raghav. It’s just a trip. You’ll survive."
