Christmas is one of the most beautiful holidays of the year for me, filled with warmth and joy. I can picture my mother bustling through the market in Côte d'Ivoire, her laughter mingling with the vibrant sounds of the crowd as she selects fresh ingredients for the festive meals we will share with our neighbors. It's a cherished tradition there, every Christmas, the spirit of giving envelops the community, with neighbors cooking and sharing their dishes, creating joy that binds us all together.

As I sit here, the distance from my homeland weighs heavily on my heart. I miss my country, especially my parents. Just a short while ago, I had a video call with them, my heart swelling with love as I wished them a Merry Christmas. Also, I aspoke with Daniel, Ama, and the children. They excitedly mentioned the gift they have for me and that I will see them when we got home.

This morning, Kylian left me alone in the bedroom again. A part of me appreciates that, I wouldn't want my family to know that I'm with a young man. After taking a shower and brushing my teeth, I ventured into the kitchen, where Kylian's grandmother was bustling about.

Grandma: Oh, Khalila! You didn't wake up earlier today!

She exclaimed, her voice full of warmth.

Me: I did wake up early, Grandma, but I had a video call with my family. Do you know where Kylian is?

I said trying to sound casual.

Her: Oh, he must be on the terrace. If you find him there, tell him to come to the salon; we have to share the presents.

she said, her eyes twinkling with excitement.

Me: Okay, Grandma, I'm going

I said, heading towards the terrace.

As I stepped outside, I spotted Kylian sitting alone on a chair, lost in thought.

Me: Hey, what are you doing here?

I asked, trying to lighten the mood.

Him: Nothing, just thinking

Me: About what?

I pressed, sensing something deeper beneath his calm exterior.

Him: Uh, not too important

he murmured, shrugging it off.

Me: You're acting weird today

I said, raising an eyebrow.

Him: Don't worry, baby. You've just woken up?

he asked softly.

Me: No, I was wishing Merry Christmas to my family on FaceTime

I replied, smiling at the thought.

Him: Hm

he nodded and took a breath, wanting to share something special.

Me: I have a little present for you...

I said , with a shy smile

His eyebrows arched

Him: Really?

Me: It's for Christmas, just a little chain bracelet. Here
