Monae and Libby explained their situation to Damien.

"So there was this High Mage who'd been kidnapping kids. His real name is Xodiac Tanas, but he's been going by Father recently. This former High Mage was banished for trying to incite a rebellion against the Council, and he tried using us, the kids he kidnapped, as his army. Long story short, he failed due to some sabotage and-"

"Wait. Sabotage? Who sabotaged him?"

"Me." Libby announced. She took the seat next to him. His cat had taken a liking to her, curling up in Libby's lap and falling asleep. "Well actually it's a lot more complex than that, but let's just say I was able to... prevent him from winning."

"So you're a time mage, too? Like Dad? And me?"

Libby shook her head. Clasping a hand over her chest, she said, "I am a clairvoyant."

"Okay. That doesn't explain how you manipulated future events at all."

Libby chewed her lip. "Let's just say I have access to something that makes my magecraft a bit stronger."

"Uhm... okay." Damien nodded. "We're gonna touch on that later, right?"

Libby's eyes flickered gold a moment. Metallic mana swirled around her eyes. He'd never seen that color of mana before.

"Yes, we will." Libby said. The mana faded from her.

"So what happened after you prevented this Zodiac guy from whatever the hell he was doing?"

"As a consequence for using this magic," Libby continued. "We were transported elsewhere." Libby noticed her brother's lips part to ask a question. "We were in Xodiac's cult. It was somewhere far from here. It seemed like we were on a different planet entirely."

Damien took a while to digest all that. He'd heard that using spells that were beyond a human's power could have a major drawback. That's what caused Australia to disappear, after all.

"No. There weren't any kangaroos where we were." Monae answered from the kitchen. She'd offered to cook up some breakfast while the two siblings talked. And who was Damien to say no to a second breakfast.

Libby arched a brow. Damien just shook his head. "Nothing. So what happened on this other planet?"

"Well, we kinda got teleported to a mansion. We lived there for a while, and assumed the role of superheroes. Father said it was the best use of our gifts, since this other planet didn't have magic." Libby's eyes trailed off as she muttered about how dry the mana there was.

"So you guy's got a mansion as a consequence for altering fate."

Libby shook her braids and giggled. "No. We were transported elsewhere as a result of my spell. The mansion seemed to be just dumb luck."

"Maybe I should try to overthrow the government." Damien jested.

The girls went quiet. Libby's face blanched.

"It wasn't all that great. Don't get me wrong, the house was amazing. But there were side effects. Most of us had lost our memories. Our entire lives faded from our minds. And for the few of us who did remember, we faced repercussions." Damien decided not to interrupt again. "He told us that we were a group of superheroes who defended against justice. He told us he was our leader, our Father. The man who took us in and helped us hone our powers. And we believed him because that was the only information we had to go off."

"Did he try to explain why you had amnesia?"

Libby nodded. "He blamed it on me. He said that I had betrayed the family, and sabotaged them. That I let a group of villains beat us. He told us that he was barely able to save us."
