Bailee set her glass down, her eyes flickering over to Taylor. The soft lighting in her apartment cast a warm glow on Taylor's face, making her look even more at ease than Bailee had seen her in a while. It was rare for Taylor to get moments like this— away from the frenzy, just being herself. Bailee could feel the weight of today's events lingering in the air between them, but now the conversation had flowed, there was something more. Something unspoken.

"You know," Taylor said after a moment, her voice quieter than before, "it's times like these that I remember why I need moments like this. With you."

Bailee's heart skipped a beat. She didn't know what to say. She knew she was Taylor's safe space, and their friendship was one of the few things in Taylor's life that wasn't touched by fame or pressure. But tonight, with the way Taylor was looking at her, there was something different— something Taylor hadn't allowed herself to think too deeply about before.

Bailee shifted closer towards Taylor, their knees brushing. Taylor didn't pull away, and Bailee felt a sudden rush of warmth spread through her.

"I'm really glad you're here," Bailee said, her voice soft, almost a whisper. She hadn't realized until now how much she had wanted Taylor, how much this simple evening together meant to her. "You always know when to show up at the right time."

Taylor smiled, but it was different now— softer, more vulnerable. She met Bailee gaze, and for a split second, neither of them said anything. The air charged with something unspoken, something that had been bubbling the surface for who knows how long.

Bailee could feel her pulse quicken. Was this what she thought it was? She had always told herself they were just friends. That the way Taylor made her feel, wasn't the same for Taylor. But now sitting here, inches away from her, it felt like something more.

Taylor's eyes flickered to Bailee's lips, just for a second, but long enough for Bailee to notice. Her breath hitched, and before she could second guess herself, she leaned in. It was slow, tentative at first, like they were testing the waters, making sure this was real. But then Taylor closed the gap, her lips meeting Bailee's, in a soft warm kiss.

It felt like the world stopped. For a brief moment, everything else faded— the Twitter headlines, the stress, the chaos of Taylor's life. There was only this. There was only them.

Bailee's heart pounded in her chest, but it wasn't out of fear. It felt right. The kiss deepened, still gentle but more certain now, as if they both knew this was something that had been building for a long time. When they finally pulled back, their foreheads resting against each other, Bailee felt a warmth settle deep in her chest.

Taylor let out a soft laugh, breathless but smiling. "Well," she said, her voice barely above a whisper, "that was unexpected."

Bailee chuckled, her cheeks flushed, "Yeah it was."

They sat there for a moment, the weight of what just happened settling in. Bailee could see a mix of emotions flicker across Taylor's face— relief, maybe a little fear— but mostly, she just looked content.

Taylor's hand found Bailee's, her fingers curling around hers. "I don't know what this means, or what comes next," she said quietly, "but I'm not worried about it. Not tonight."

Bailee nodded, her thumb brushing over Taylor's hand, "Me neither."

They stayed like that, close, connected, the tension from earlier completely gone. There would be time to figure things out later, to talk about what the kiss meant for them. But for now, they were just two people who cared deeply about each other, sitting in the quiet of Bailee's apartment, feeling like the rest of the world didn't matter.

The wine was long forgotten, and the world outside didn't exist. Taylor was here. And so was Bailee. That was all that mattered.
