I was sitting there, quietly enjoying my bowl of noodles, twirling them absentmindedly in my chopsticks.

It had been a long day, and all I wanted was some peace. Just as I was about to take another bite, I saw him step out of his office.

He stopped for a moment, looked at me, and then, for the first time ever, said, "Bye"

I was too stunned to respond properly. My lips pressed into a tight, sarcastic smile, and I blinked at him in mockery.

He rolled his eyes at me like he always did, with that air of indifference he carried, and then he left. The door shut behind him, and the room was empty again.

I sighed, got up, and made my way to the closet. It was time for some distraction. I reached for my favorite dark romance novel, the one Shrija had recommended to me after giving it to Dhriti.

She said Dhriti loved it, and I figured, why not?

It's not like I had anything better to do. And now, I can't stop. I could read this all day and night without ever feeling bored.

I flopped down onto my bed, burying myself into the soft pillows, the book clutched tightly in my hands.

The moment I opened it, the world around me faded.

The characters, their pain, their love—everything seemed so much more vivid than my own reality.

(Inka dukh to mere jeevan se zyada h)

My heart ached and soared with every word until, slowly, my eyelids became heavy, and the story faded as sleep claimed me.

A loud knock startled me awake. I blinked in confusion before hearing my mom's voice from the other side of the door. I swung my legs off the bed and opened it.

"What happened?" I asked groggily.

She looked at me with a sense of urgency in her eyes.

"Avyansh forgot a document. I need you to take it to him."

I stared at her, my brow furrowed. She must have noticed my reluctance because she just sighed and said, "Beta, go."

She left before I could protest.
I groaned inwardly, thinking, ''Of all days, today she won't let me work but has no issue sending me to her precious son's office.''

I rolled my eyes, feeling an unwelcome bitterness creeping in.

Reluctantly, I changed out of my comfortable clothes and into a dark green sleeveless kurta with embroidered palazzos.

I applied a little kajal and dabbed some lip gloss on, just enough to look presentable.

As I grabbed the car keys, I noticed two cars outside—my husband's security detail, no doubt.
