Nick had been awful silent. My mind created answers for him, since I was too afraid to ask. Of course he was upset at me, I would be too if he was keeping a huge secret. I tried not to be overwhelming with my concerns, I wanted so badly for him to know I cared. I just wanted him to be happy. I would do anything.

The evenings were getting colder, our blankets would soon stop providing the warmth our bodies needed to stay out in the woods long enough to spend time together. I worried this would cut our time short, that the would slowly start to separate us. Why was being with Nick more difficult now that we didn't have to sneak around compared to when we did?

"Everything okay?" I hoped he would answer my question honestly this time.

"Yeah," a soft smile played on his lips, looking over and confirming his answer with a nod.

I knew pain, and his eyes held the perfect telling of it.

"What's wrong?"

His shoulders slumped, "Nothing." He shook his head.

"Nick." I begged.

"It's just..." he hesitated. "Ever since we had dinner at your place, things have been weird." My body stiffened.  This was my fault. He was having regrets... I shouldn't have let him in. I should've kept our relationship a randevouz.

"Oh." What could I say? "What do you mean?" I actually didn't want him to elaboraste, he would only prove my worries right.

"My mom." He looked away from me, his hand unclasping from mine and falling over his lower abdomen. "She's been seeing this man." My brows furrowed. I didn't know Nicks parent too well, but from what he spoke of them, his parent were deeply in love. Was he suggesting his mother was cheating?

"Okay?" I urged him to continue.

"They only meet after midnight, she assumes I don't know but he hands her an envelope each time." His
voice cracks. What did any of this have to do with me though? Was he looking to blame me for his mother's actions? "This man, he's not normal Venus." There it was. He spoke what I feared.

"What do you mean Nick?" But I knew exactly what he meant.

"This man, he has glowing red eyes... a burn marks all over his face."

The dark lord had many faces. He chose what to present himself as, other times person saw what they feared most. Though I couldn't be sure in this case. It had to be Lucifer. There was no other explanation for the midnight appearances. From the little that I knew, my parents had mentioned the dark lord helping Nicks mom with her sickness. The delivery could only mean he was giving her a cure.

"I'm going to confront them tonight." He looked back at me, his tear filled eyes meeting mine.

"Okay." I nodded. How could I be a supportive girlfriend while not letting him ruin the dark lords plans. "Let me come with you." It was the stupidest idea I had ever had. What was I going to do? Save the day? Make the bogey man disappear? I couldn't let Nick get in the way.

"What?" He was as surprised as I. Or I could just tell him the truth, about me, about the man with the glowing red eyes.

But I couldn't. "I'll stay the night, we can confront them together." I had never been inside of Nicks house, not by invitation at least. Our meetings had always been in the woods, I was surprised it had taken this long for him to ask me over. He didn't ask.
