Darling, it's better down where it's wetter
💦

Avneet; the high princess of the Merfolk; hates humans
Siddharth; the brightest marine biologist of his age also hates the merfolk
_____

The rain fell in sheets, cascading over the rocky cliffs that framed the coastline. A storm churned the ocean into chaos, its fury mirroring the tension between two worlds that rarely collided—at least, not without disaster.

Avneet struggled to breathe. Pain seared through her side, a wound that shouldn't have happened—couldn't have, if she’d just stayed beneath the waves where she belonged. But fate had other plans. She was dragged through the shallows, her vision blurring, her body weakening. The last thing she remembered before the darkness claimed her was the unfamiliar touch of human hands.

Siddharth worked furiously under the sterile lights of his lab, his hands steady as he assessed the strange creature lying on his table. A mermaid. He, however, understood more than anyone. A lifelong marine biologist, he had spent years studying the myths of the Merfolk, though he’d long stopped believing in them. Or caring.

Humans feared the Merfolk; the Merfolk despised humans. That was the way it had always been. And Siddharth had never questioned it. Until now.

"Darling, it's better down where it's wetter," he muttered to himself, lips twisting in irony as he reached for his instruments. But this wasn’t just another specimen. As much as he hated to admit it, something about this one—this wounded princess—was different.
