Siddharth thought the mermaid would at least be grateful to him for saving her life. He thought wrong.
When Siddharth was busy applying the seaweed on the mermaid's body, the mermaid had finally slipped to unconsciousness. She only woke up an hour later, when Siddharth tried to inject her with morphine so she won't feel so much pain when she woke up. He struggled with the dosage since he didn't know the tolerance level of the mermaid he wouldn't want to kill her so carelessly after being stung by the jellyfish for her.

Avneet tried to remember what happened. She remembered the motor of a boat, getting entangled in webs with knives and shards of ice, getting dragged out of the water and...
God saving her.
Yeah, it might be God.
When Avneet was drifting in and out of consciousness, she remembered her tail hurting like shit. Some guy with jet black hair was talking to her, and he was trying to save her. That guy's voice sounded better than any sirens Avneet had ever heard, brighter than a winter day's sunlight, cool like a seasonal current, firm like the rocks beneath the ocean floors, yet soft like her grandmothers' touches. It felt like home.
The wound still burned, and so did her saviours' touch. Avneet blinked hee eyes several times before fully opening them, taking in her surroundings. The bright light on top of her reminded her of the scorching sun that one time she wandered to somewhere too shallow, almost got washed up to the beach and returned home with a tail between her legs (figuratively) and sunburnt skin.
When Avneet blinked out her grogginess, she made out the silhouette of her saviour, who was blocking out some of the light. Avneet could still feel the numb pain from her tail, like a tingly numb sensation that she couldn't shake off.
That was when Avneet realised something was off. She couldn't pinpoint the problem though. It hurts. What am I looking for? Sanz. Ved. Grandma. 21. Where am I. Vial- vial????
Avneet finally remembered the pearly duffle she was supposed to be carrying when the realisation finally hit her now that she could no longer feel the fabric of the strap against her shoulder. She instantly sat up, thought pain shot through her spine almost immediately. She patted her chest and shoulders, head whipping around hurriedly. Gone. Her bag was gone.
"Oh, you're awake. What are you looking for?" Siddharth stared at Avneet from above, very confused at the mermaid's frantic state.
Avneet ignored the question thrown at her, desperately trying to find her precious vial.
"Did you see my bag?"
"Your bag? Do you mean the pearly white one? Here. Oh." Siddharth gaze landed on the floor beside the pool, the indigo liquid staring right back at him.
"Dude what the fuck?! Did you break my vial? Do you even know how important it is? You fucking-" Avneet's vision went red. Without the vial it means that she could never turn into a human, meaning that she would have to go back to the sea immediately, pretty pathetic if you asked her. So Avneet did the logical thing and starting biting Siddharth's arm.
"Dude, what the fuck is wrong with you? I saved your life you bitch! Stop fucking biting me you slimy fish-"
"If you had paid more attention to it then it won't be broken!"
"Then you would be fucking dead is that what you want?"
Both parties raised their voices, air thick with tension and anger. Siddharth could feel Avneet stir under his gaze, but Siddharth did not want to back down since he did nothing wrong. Who would prioritise a vial over their own life? The mermaid in front of him looked terrifying, navy eyes with a glint of fury behind. Avneet clenched her fist and reached for the mother ocean in her veins. She called and the seas answered.
