Kaveri felt like she was on the merry-go-round in Disneyland, except nothing about her bedroom spinning was exactly merry. She could swear she was completely fine just 5 minutes ago, or more precisely before she drank the tall glass of orange juice that was set aside for her.
Confused, she stumbled out of her room, only to find the world outside swirling in the same disorienting dance.
"Earthquake ahh?" she asked loudly to herself
She squinted her eyes, scanning the happy faces in the living room. After much struggle, she successfully spotted her family members. Narmadha was happily munching on some snacks. Paati and her mother were setting the table. Ganga was bending down, sticking some candles on the large black forest cake - and Kaveri's eyes lit up at the sight.
Cake!
Her cake! How could she forget it was her birthday?
The twinkling fairy lights, pastel coloured balloons, and the clusters of flowers hanging around - the entire living room made her feel giddy.
"Yennadi aachu unaku?" Kaveri heard a concerned voice.
"Yen Kaveri oru madhri iruka?" another voice asked, puzzled.
"Akka! Yen ipdi aadura?" echoed a third.
Kaveri really couldn't discern whose words they were. She wasn't exactly interested in paying attention to any of those people anyways.
Waving them off, she wandered around, her eyes desperately searching for something. Or rather someone. Someone tall, extremely handsome than the average man, and consequently with an ego that's the size of jupiter.
But, he was also incredibly warm like her mother's lap and had deep brown eyes that often made her want to either kill him or worse, kiss him. Today, especially after drinking that orange juice, she felt like kissing him.
Yes, she's gonna kiss him!
But she needed to find him first. Their house was unusually crowded making her search even harder. She felt an odd fear start sinking in as the living room spinned even quicker. She's sure he would somehow make all the spinning stop. He always knew what to do, always making her feel better. Life just becomes less scary for Kaveri when he is beside her. So she just needed to find him and everything would be fine then.
Just when she decided to scream out his name on top of her lungs, she caught sight of the creature she's been hunting for, her creature.
There he was, standing by the front door, engrossed in some useless conversation with Thatha and Kumaran.
Did she actually know what they were talking about? No.
But did she still know it was useless? Yes.
Any conversation he has with anyone aside from her had to be useless. She could not understand why he had to waste his energy and talk to others when he could just spend his whole life talking to her.
She skipped over with the brightest smile and immediately threw herself into his arms, causing him to almost jerk and fall in shock. Vijay blinked, completely caught off guard as Kaveri had launched herself at him, giggling like a child high on sugar.
His brain stuttered for a solid minute, trying to catch up with the fact that his usually sane, mostly decent wife had just bear-hugged him in front of about at least fifty guests—guests who, thank God, were too busy chattering to notice the crazy scene unfolding here. But the few who had noticed, especially Thatha and Kumaran, were staring with amused curiosity.
